Needless to say I do not have my card reader and this is the third time they post me a code.
They’re fuckers about that. Years ago when they were sending out these card readers to everybody I never got one. Several times in the last few years they’ve insisted I needed a card reader to do something but I’ve always gotten around it. then there was something there last year where the app was forcing me to update it but then wouldn’t let me because my address was incorrect but then wouldn’t let me change my address without a card reader but I had no card reader so the guy on the phone told me he will send me a card reader so I could sort it out I said fine. Then they sent me one of course I managed to get them to change my address on the call afterwards but then they charged me €5 for the card reader. Never thought to mention to me that I will be charged for it. Fuckers. I never wanted it or needed it
In terms of security this is: 10/10
In terms of user experience this is: 2/10.
P.S – To achieve 1/10 you would require selfie – every time you want to check how much of **your** money you have on **your** **AIB’s** account.
Actually it’s going back that way now in a way… We have been issued with fobs for 2FA for work
a nice place to be stuck, tbh…
Ulster bank are the same
I live overseas so I can’t get it sent to me due to the lithium battery in it. So I have zero access to my online banking. When I called them, all the girl could say was ‘Yeah, that’s a thing that happens’. Obviously nothing to do with her, but I’m thinking about just closing the account next time I get home and just doing all my banking here because I don’t really plan to go home.
Why? This is a very good piece of kit. Very secure, while also being cheap and simple to manufacture.
Newer is not always better.
I had personal and business accounts with AIB, the personal one has a card reader and is a pain to use when making a large transfer. The business account just had a little pad (Digipass) without the card reader and was much easier to use, in fact in general the business account was easier to use except that you had to pay for it.
Stupid cunts make me want to smash that yoke
It’s actually good security.
It’s annoying to use, yes, but it’s a 100% solid authentication factor and it secures your money.
Every concession in terms of ease of use makes your money less safe, including switching to a phone authentication system.
They are such a ball ache
Card readers are not specific to your bank nor your bank account.
They are generic and you can use anyone’s to generate your code, regardless of their bank. So just borrow someone else’s if you’ve lost yours.
I was trying to transfer money to an international account last month via online banking… Apparently I’d need to order an bank card reader… What the actual fuck kind of logic… How is it that Revolut let’s you transfer money seemlessly, buy crypto and trade stocks all on one app?
Coming from a different country, irish banking systems look really dated. We have been using full digital banking for the past 5 or 6 years. Super safe. We used to have a keychain with a pin authentication system which has been integrated to the App. No one ever complained about lack of security since the app still requires your passwords for every transaction. Also, number combination changes every login and 2 wrong passwords will lock you out.
Well i havent been able to do online AIB for two yrs, so cant use it. Spent hrs on phone. Nice staff but the bank cant recognise a foreign phone number etc. I live in asia. C.unts. theyre useless, im switching wen i return in june.
