  1. ***The Telegraph reports:***

Poland has unveiled plans for a line of anti-tank ditches, bunkers and minefields along its borders with Belarus and Russia.

[Donald Tusk](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/05/21/poland-donald-tusk-europe-build-iron-dome/), the Polish prime minister, announced a 10 billion zloty (£2 billion) defensive line to make Nato’s eastern flank “impassable to a potential enemy,” earlier this month, but provided few details.

Visualisations released on Monday show a network of concrete anti-tank “hedgehogs”, palisades and steel barriers integrated with earthworks along 434 miles of frontier.

[Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/04/28/why-return-to-fight-ukrainian-men-living-abroad/), Poland’s defence minister, told reporters: “The ‘East Shield’ deterrence and defence plan is the largest operation to strengthen the eastern border of Poland, the eastern flank of Nato, since 1945.

“It will be a combination of terrain conditions with fortifications and modern technology.”

He added that the government would also apply for European Union funding for the border wall. Work will start this year and should be completed by 2028.

  2. I fully support it. Europe needs to consider these types of projects until Russia and China go bankrupt. And then perhaps a generation or two more after that. But simultaneously what a massive waste of time and resources.

  3. Anyone knows how can it be impenetrable for tanks and very much penetrable for trucks?

  4. Calling defense infrastructure built by Poland of all countries, in response to the constant Russian threats, the “new Iron Curtain” is making me sick. Do the people who do these titles know anything about history and what the Iron Curtain was? What it meant for the countries behind it?

  5. So, what does the Iron Curtain do?

Do? Well, by the theorem it appears to make things… invulnerable.

    Invulnerable!?

  6. Did they just showed potential agressor, whole concept + anti-tank barricades + place where the antitank/antipersonel mines will be? XD

  7. What’s to stop pootin to go through Belarus and Lithuania and bypass the whole thing?

    I’m getting some Maginot vibes…

  8. Or they could just invade Lithuanian first and go through Suwałki gap

  9. Using the word “Iron Curtain” for an attempt for Poland to defend Europe is pretty disgusting, especially using it on a country that was in the Warsaw Pact and lived the terror of communism.

Why doesn’t the press just use a word like “Maginot Line” or something like that, instead of the “Iron Curtain”.

  10. Eastern Europe understands the threat. ***Again***.

Western Europe would like to mull over it and pretend like they’re the good guys. ***Again***.

  11. I find it amusing that for 2 Billion dollars, these states can build a wall to hold off a Russian invasion.

    Meanwhile in the States…

A wall 4 times longer with a budget 9 times bigger can not stop a ladder and a rope 🙂

  12. Suwalki gap shouldn’t be simply ignored just like that, out of purely political reasons, only not to piss of the Lithuanian govement.

  13. It is “Eastern Shield” not “Iron courtain”. What a dogshit translation of the actual name of the structure…

  14. André Maginot should be consulted before they go ahead with this project

  15. I support this but cant help but wonder how effective this will be with 2 gaping holes from Ukraine and Lithuania side.

I understand why the gaps are there and why it would be scandalous to propose closing them. But doesnt this mean Russia needs to simply make an opening for themselfes on ukrainian or lithuanian soil first?

  16. As a Belgian, don’t forget the border with Lithuania. We all know how Germany went past the French defenses in WW2
