  1. ***The Telegraph reports:***

France will soon start sending troops to train Ukrainian forces in [the war-torn country](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/05/27/ukraine-russia-war-latest-news6/), Kyiv’s top commander said on Monday.

[General Oleksandr Syrskyi ](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/04/28/ukraine-battlefield-position-worsened-army-chief-admits/)said paperwork had been signed to allow French military instructors to visit Ukrainian training centres, following talks with Sebastien Lecornu, the French defence minister.

“I welcome France’s initiative to send instructors to Ukraine to train Ukrainian military personnel,” Gen Syrskyi wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

“I have already signed the documents that will allow the first French instructors to visit our training centres soon and familiarise themselves with their infrastructure and staff.

“I believe that France’s determination will encourage other partners to join this ambitious project.”

Ukraine’s commander-in-chief offered no details on the first French deployments.

The French defence ministry said: “As already mentioned several times, training on Ukrainian soil is one of the projects discussed since the conference on support for Ukraine convened by the President of the Republic on February 26.

“Like all the projects discussed at that time, this track continues to be the subject of work with the Ukrainians, in particular to understand their exact needs.”

Emmanuel Macron, the French president, raised eyebrows in February when he said [sending Western troops to Ukraine “could not be ruled out”](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/02/27/macron-scholz-refusal-taurus-missiles-ukraine-war/).

The intervention created divisions within Nato as the alliance’s member states ruled out combat deployments that could risk escalation with Russia.

  2. So…if French troops gonna get hit on Ukraine territory…what does it actually gonna mean….

  3. Viva la France!

Let us in Europe follow that decision.

I have no doubt that sooner or later, a confrontation will occur anyway.

Might as well get ourselves familliar with it now.

  4. Écoute, c’est comme ça qu’on tue un Russe, bang bang, comme ça.

    Compris ?

Je vais vous montrer à nouveau…

  5. This is a significant move. Solidarity and support are crucial.

  6. FRANCE TO SEND TROOPS TO UKRAINE 😳 to train soldiers 😴

  7. Finally. Focking French 🇫🇷 show little poopstain we mean business.

  8. Let’s train them near Kiyv or Karkiv, one french Sergent, 6 trainees. Of course this mighty camp needs AA protection, so 2 batteries of SAMP/T + additional short range for the drones. One or two french AWACS to see them coming. Humm… we need to coordinate with the locals, so let’s share a bit of informations.

  9. It also means the French foreign Legion will also be involved, and no doubt fighting…. remember how the United States got involved in the Vietnam War? Although I fully support this action. Freedom for Ukraine, freedom for Europe, freedom for the world from tyrany

  10. This should read “French troops to be trained in Ukraine by Ukrainian veterans”. Wtf can NATO troops show these guys, theyre the ones we should be learning from.

  11. You wouldn’t go without proper air defence, right France? Right? Better make it double!

  12. Thats cool cuz now Putin can “accidentally” start WW3 or accidentally start WW3 or or see if killing NATO troops reslly does enact article 5 or or or say crazy shit forever fuuuuuuuuuck farnce we on offensive or we drink wine and skrew….jk but seriously it is a bit…French.

  13. Let’s just keep escalating this conflict into WW3. I LOVE NUKES! Slava Ukraini!

  14. I can’t see why france would be doing this unless this is a way to ease the public into more foreign military units in ukraine.

NATO has been training Ukrainians throughout Europe for 2 years now, they don’t *need* to train them in ukraine at all.

  15. It seems like Macron and the French are the only ones with actual balls. NATO needs to step in and send troops to Ukraine and put this charade to an end. Putin does nothing but fear-monger with his nukes.

  16. Wow. An end to the “white flag french” jokes now I guess. Well done France on stepping up.

  17. I wonder what would happen if French soldiers were killed with an attack by the Russians. Would the french retaliate without nato backing? Let’s hope their not, tho I read Lithuania and Estonia are also thinking about doing the same, and I hope the uk also do the same thing

  18. I’ve heard that a lot of the French Foreign Legion is made up of past eastern bloc countries, like Ukraine.

  19. I would be interested to know if they’ll be taking some air defence systems with them, could free up Ukraines own to be used elsewhere.

Its also a good way to test Russias resolve, these trainers could be considered a tripwire force. If Russia doesn’t ever make a move on them, we know their resolve is much less than their rhetoric.

If they do and French troops die, well there’s the casus beli Macron can use at home for intervening in the war at various levels, think enforced no fly zone, no more limits on weapon usage, air defence shield, right up to becoming an active participant in the conflict.

Though I do find the timing of this announcement, in relation to the attack on the ballistic missile warning system, kind of worrysome.

  20. I don’t see what the fuss is about. British trainers have been there for more than a year.

  21. French troops training Ukrainian soldiers is like Jake Paul training Mike Tyson. It’s like Brett Rattner schooling Steven Spielberg on directing.

  22. Why bother, these soldiers never saw combat in Ukraine or are outdated in comparison, when they send Ukraine troops overseas to Britain and some other country the Ukrainians were saying that the British were outdated.
