School attendance: Mental health problems behind absenteeism, pupils say

  1. Everyone I currently know is fucked up mentally in one way or another and we’re supposedly adults, so no wonder the kids are feeling it even more.

Frankly the last 20 years or so – I’m not that young – have been the worst in the UK and possibly the world that I can remember. I have never felt the kind of stress in everyday life that I do today, and see so many people I know suffer as well.

So… it is no bloody surprise the poor kids are suffering even worse. What have they got ahead of them? Massive debt from university at best. Possibly a goodish job but more likely a shit one. No chance of buying a house until their 30s if ever. Not much chance of renting a home for that matter. The list of worries they have to deal with that my generation didn’t at their age is massive.

I’ve realised I was lucky to grow up in a fantasy time, when technology was opening up opportunities, there was a positive hope for the future, the cold war was over (we thought) and we did have it good. Not great, but in comparison to now, all we can offer is fuck all to the kids and grandkids… and wear sunscreen and don’t live anywhere at sea level, oh and fancy joining the army for 12 months?

Quite frankly, if the entire teenage population decided to rise up and murder everyone over 30, I frankly wouldn’t blame them. I mean, they can claim it was a mass psychotic event brought on them by the shit world their elders and supposed betters have dumped on them.
