Surely the brexit referendum was the most dishonest of modern times ?
Can we have an election that’s not about Brexit for once?
Haha it’s the third election since the Brexit vote which was now 8 years ago. How many times have Remainers got to revisit the issue? Even Starmer and most of labour know to drop it.
Shows how utterly destructive and toxic the last 5 years under this “government” have been politically, economically and socially that this issue is now a LONG way down the list of crushing priorities. Despite, still, being vitally important to the nation’s long term prosperity and STILL being a complete mess by all accounts.
It’s funny how it’s The Winners who are done talking about Brexit.
Sorry guys but we’ve got a lifetime supply of I Told You So’s to dish out to you. You own it forever.
Neither party wants to touch the issue with a bargepole because it’s so politically toxic
Ignoring the housing crisis for 30 years is the true dishonesty but I guess he’d rather avoid discussing it.
I know we all hate the Brexit result but it did happen.
Politics is wild at the moment. Boris had the ‘Oven Ready’ slogan that his Brexit deal as part of his election campaign . Lo and behold he won a land slide with an 80 seat majority taking down a lot of the red wall.
Brexit is not a left or right leaning issue which frustrates both the Torys and Labour because they can’t politically capitalise on it.
However, it is stronger and deeper rooted across the nation than anything the major parties can bottle and tap into.
The risk is, this feeling is ignored and any party that can win a landslide one election could easily be decimated the next.
You might not like what Heseltine has to say the vast majority of the UK voting public don’t spend their days pleasuring themselves to their favourite agreeable sub-Reddit echo-chambers.
The vast majority of people who vote, don’t take part in straw polls.
It’s weird because I know for a fact that a great many left wingers (including the likes of Corbyn, who almost all of you voted for) supported leaving the EU. Yet for whatever reason there’s virtually no representation of those people on this sub.
Dammit, I don’t just want to see BBC acolytes repeating the same nonsense to each other. Show me some real people! Real, deeply held beliefs! This is all surface level call-and-response stuff. It’s so unrepresentative of real life it’s obscene.
Non of the winners want to own the utter failure of Brexit.
This is a turd that you can’t polish and won’t flush.
People really bought into brexit- the shame that is associated with being so badly duped, when half the country was screaming “they’re duping you!” over a single, fairly simple issue, is too much. A small minority can and already have backed down, but the vast majorirty will take it to the grave.
I am a remainer and a rejoiner but we are a couple election cycles too early. As glib as it sounds some of that boomer generation need to die off first
Turning this into a defacto Brexit election will really not help Labour. We all saw plain as day how Brexit dominated the last election
It’s amazing how Kier Starmer was originally arguably the most pro EU candidate in the Labour Party voicing his support to have another referendum in the Corbyn era to now rejecting an EU semi free movement deal (the EU even watered it down to make it less than pre Brexit levels of movement) for young people. It really is off the table for the main two parties to even have any greater cooperation with the EU – Labour has offered very little when it comes to strengthening EU ties even if it’s slightly better than Sunak’s approach of cooperating with individual countries in the EU.
As a Remainer (or I guess Rejoiner) Brexit might not be the biggest issue but it’s definitely making me less likely to vote Labour over Lib Dem, among many other reasons of course – and I’m saying that as someone who lives in a constituency where Labour, Lib Dem and Conservative could potentially win (a not normally but in this election very tight constituency).
When was it honest? The tories have run the country to the ground and don’t get me started with Blair
I think most people have moved on, hence its a minor issue in this election.
It’s done. We need to focus on current issues in this election.cost of utilities. NHS, Water companies nationalise or not. Fair taxation ….. etc
