> Ms Afzal told the BBC she was now considering giving up her career completely and moving abroad with her family, because of the impact the attack has had on her mental health.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I wish her the best and hope she attains back a level of normality.
My partner works in mental health and attacks like this happen on a near weekly basis. Psychiatric hospitals have many violent patients who aren’t technically sick, but are institutionalised or are criminals who know how to play the system to avoid prison. The Police seemingly won’t touch them because they don’t want the hassle and the prisons are already over crowded anyway.
We all know what should happen to this guy.
>She also struggled to wear her hijab for a long time due to the feeling of constriction around her neck and as a consequence was scared of going out into the community without it.
This is the saddest bit of the story.
I would love to know more of the context to the attack. Worked with plenty of violent mentally unwell people but he sounds psychopathic (if that’s really a thing)
“Wolverhampton Crown Court heard he had previously committed 46 counts of actual or threatened violence, almost all of which were carried out on members of healthcare staff.
These incidents included him strangling a female nurse, headbutting a member of hospital staff which resulted in a concussion, and stamping on the stomach of someone who had previously had surgery.
He had also threatened to set a nurse on fire and told another he would stab them”
I fully understand and sympathise that people with certain types of mental health issues and personality disorders can be violent, but this seems crazy to me.
How was he still in a position where he could do something like this when it was shown so many times that he’s extremely violent and unpredictable.
This is the same lady whose sister was one of the first NHS workers to die from Covid. [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-56377782](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-56377782)
