1. He probably told him to. In the longer version, it shows he lost his leg at the hip. 0% surviving that in the field. His buddy got killed by a drone moments after this too

5. In a situation where survival was probably not likely or impossible, just did his comrade a hard favor. No way an evac or a medic could have saved him. Looks like his leg was gone at the hip. Severed artery, probably only had minutes left anyway.
