[The U.S.-built temporary pier](https://apnews.com/article/us-pier-humanitarian-aid-gaza-israel-d993fc0cdc31365e4e4514153a590955) taking humanitarian aid to starving Palestinians will be removed from the coast of Gaza to be repaired after getting damaged in rough seas and weather, the Pentagon said Tuesday.
Over the next two days, the pier will be pulled out and sent to the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, where U.S. Central Command will repair it, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh told reporters. She said the fixes will take “at least over a week” and then the pier will need to be anchored back into the beach in Gaza.

Hamas was intercepting the aid once it got off the beach anyways.
Too bad the weather did not cooperate.
Cost $350 million to build, lasted two weeks before rough weather damaged it and now dismantled for repair costing more money, towed back and reattached.
One humanitarian aid project costing hundred of millions of dollar.
On a related note I just watched this video from AJ+

And there were some interesting statements that journalists should really be following up on.
“We used to get 1kg of lentils for 2 or 3 shekels, now I buy it for 100 shekels.”
“…as prices continued to rise”
“…launched a campaign that raised more than a million dollars, money that allows his family to buy food at a premium price”
“..the issue we’ve solved is how to get money to the north”
“…it’s an expensive dish, God bless those who are buying the ingredients, they’re buying them at inflated prices.”
“.. when we could not get money to the north…. we used the money that Majed had on him… to finance the soup kitchen.”
“…we can’t buy food. Food is so expensive.”
Almost like the problem is not necessarily a lack of food but how much it costs.
Who could’ve possibly predicted this?
I know a lot of folks will poo-poo this project, but in reality I’m betting it’s been a huge positive learning experience for our military, and, honestly, the primary reason why we did it. There’s so much more under the covers here I’m suspecting. It was literally a “This is a once in a lifetime chance” to do it and get back real world results without it being a massive problem if it was out of action. This is one of those things where we may never know how much we (civilians) learned, which includes the possibility that “it won’t work”.
You think it would have done better than the Mullberry piers from WW2…
It was always a cynical good cop move to the Israeli government’s bad cop.
Waste of taxpayer $$$
That’s probably good for the US army so they could know how to make it better in case of war with Russia or China
Other than that yeah it sucks that it was destroyed
Why doesn’t our greatest ally allow aid through their borders rather than make the USA waste our money on this, on top of the tens of billions that we’ve already given them?
This is not new technology. It’s been around since the Normandy landings in June 1944.
It reads like satire from “The Onion”.
boondoggle
noun
boon·dog·gle ˈbün-ˌdä-gəl
: a wasteful or impractical project or activity often involving graft
(The only thing that surprises me about this project is that Israel didn’t bomb it with weapons we provided)
I don’t understand this whole pier thing, would it not have been cheaper, easier and more cost effective to pay Egypt to allow for a temporary military controlled passage, and drive the cargo in through their ports?
Can’t agree on student loan forgiveness or do anything to help the every day American but can build a pier worth 360 million half away around the globe.
My first thought was that the Israeli government sabotaged it. Second thought was Hamas.
Great use of money. How long did that last 2 months?
Sigh.
100% chance the IDF sabotaged it.
