Remember when adverts used to be fun?

  1. Remember when PG Tips was drinkable?

    Absolutely shite now.

  2. Advertisers know their audience so realistically if we’ve stopped responding to this sort of advert, it’s our fault he’s gone!

It says something about us as a nation though. Anything witty or vaguely humorous is just seen as cringe/try-hard these days. Are we all more cynical than we used to be?

  3. They used to get the monkeys to “talk” by putting peanut butter in their mouths. As Jimmy Carr said, “that’s also how they film Hollyoaks”

  4. Very cringe that people treat adverts as some kind of venerable art form that ought to be publicly discussed and ruminated upon

  5. I remember having the toy as a kid, used to love making him put his hand in his mouth. Hours of entertainment.

  6. Annoying how they did away with pyramids, then re-introduced the normal box with less in it while costing more – we just get yorkshire now

  7. I suppose they think that they don’t need to be fun if they’re only getting viewed as unskippable YouTube or VOD adverts.

  8. Speaking of…. Whatever happened to Johnny Vegas? I don’t think I’ve seen him in like a decade.

  9. >Remember when adverts used to be fun?

…no? And I can’t fathom why people subject themselves to them these days when they’re so easy to avoid entirely.

  10. Clicked on the YT link and many comments are saying this cost £12 million to make! I’m guessing that means advertising as well but still a ridiculous amount. I wonder if they are going the pot noodle route and purposely creating a bad advert for the likes of us to talk about on social media.

  11. The chimps were from Twycross zoo. The performing chimps lived in isolation as they couldn’t live with the more ‘natural’ chimps. The last one died a few years ago

  12. Bit suspicious. Hopefully the Sun will find any sexual improprieties he obviously committed which led to his removal from our screens. Probs make a comeback with Schofield.

  13. I’ve seen this advert a few times now. I absolutely hate it. Gives off “drama by film student trying to get funding from Picturehouse” energy.

Can anyone explain to me why it exists?

  14. How many times has monkey lost his job now. First ondigital and now this. Also think he had a gadget shop gig

  15. Whilst Monkey was good, Tetley’s Gaffa and his crew were by far the best tea mascots

  16. I loved the old monkey adverts but apparently they had a sad end.

The puppet monkey with Jonny Vegas was great. I think my parents still have a few of them dressed in different clothes.
