  1. If they did the testing before the crash they could prevent the crash from even happening. Wouldn’t that be a lot easier?

  2. Oh fuck. To be fair I thought this was already in place. For context: I’m prescribed drugs that they test for, but am unsure as to the legality of driving on them… the do not get me stoned, or make me sleepy etc

  3. Do these detect drugs after the effects have worn off? Let’s say you take a valium and you drive 12 hours later.

  4. Set the scene. Driver A crashes into the back of Driver B on the way to work. Driver B had a smoke before bed the evening before.

Would driver B be prosecuted even though someone crashed into them?

  5. Will they test for the main addiction of Irish people, phones?

  6. Has blood doping gotten this out of hand? Taxis must be getting more cutthroat to win.

  7. Also bring in mandatory drink and drug tests for all gardai before they start work !!

  8. So will they be checking for prescribed drugs too? Like read your antibiotics, it’s definitely says do not operate heavy machinery, ie a car. Will they check energy levels if they are sleepy. Caffeine is a drug… Are the going to use the sticks they have now that will flag positive if the driver had a j 48 hours ago that tests the minimum limit possible. Again I bring up if I had a smoke in Amsterdam or Germany when it can be legally found and next day drive home and some gombeen crashes into me and causes a pile up will I be held responsible.

Too many questions about current testing standards for this to push on….

  9. This has already been a thing for a while now, my father was hit from behind by a driver who was on the phone, he was at a complete stop at a junction when it happened. They were both breathalysed and drug tested.

It wasn’t a serious crash by any means, literally just the front and back bumpers of both vans were a little fucked.

  10. I was under impression they already check for drugs and alcohol after a serious crash. Like for years now.

  11. Can see alot of people just fleeing the scene of an accident now.

  13. So many people will simply flee the scene of an accident now.
