You mean to tell me that slowly turning the paper into a free Tory propaganda rag wasn’t a sound long term business plan?
It’s definitely “Wi-Fi on the tube, shortage of commuters due to work from home” that made them loose readers.
Sad to see its decline over the years.
Way back when I’d even part with 40/50p for a copy on the way home some days, if it looked like there was something interesting inside. Now I barely pick up a copy.
Never read it in years.
Inevitable – poor editorial choices mixed with a decline in the attention economy of newspapers.
News media houses have to understand that in order to survive with their physical product, they need to compete in the attention economy and even the best written word will simply not win out against video. The medium has simply changed.
Used to be part of a vanishing London life.
Good riddance
Zillennials are killing newspapers now
(*good, ES is one up from bog paper)
That’s a pain, it was great for stuffing wet trainers with to help them dry.
Another editorial gone down the shitter as people have moved on from print not to mention their digital presence is way behind the times, only I like to peek the food reviews from jimi.
They’ve also been quite tone deaf for years when it comes to the housing market. Feature – “We sold our £1m flat in Hackney for a 6 bed house in the countryside…”
What does it say about the management at the Standard that London will be the first major UK city without a dedicated daily newspaper
Not surprised. The current daily edition is very thin and it’s only a matter of time before more national dailies follow suit.
