  1. F&ST shaping up to be one of the more interesting races this election.

  2. While you can debate the merits of her profile locally, you can’t really argue that this shows Sinn Fein, like it or not, have some serious pulling power for very professional people.

In terms of election strategies and candidate selection I really don’t know if unionist parties are even close to convincing their community (and more importantly top unionist leaning professionals) that a career in politics is worthwhile in the same way.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; this vacuum is not good for anyone. Very smart pragmatic people make for relatively smooth politics. Nutters lead to division, hostility and inevitably – violence.

  3. You know what, fair play to her for walking away from the £200k salary with the RCN to become an abstentionist MP and take home the ‘industrial wage’.

In all honesty, following the boundary changes here then SF are going to walk this constituency this time around, no matter whose name is on the ballot paper

  4. Royal College of … blowing-innocent-people’s-limbs-off-and-sewing-them-back-on-again is a bit of mouthful. An interesting/perplexing career move
