I've got a load in my head but I'll go with Shut up and Dance from Black Mirror. It wasn't as 'out there' as other episodes in the series, but that's what made it more compelling as you can imagine it happening.

Other ones include 'Breach' in Line of Duty where Dot escapes the police station, 'Party' from Mighty Boosh and 'Basic Alan' from I'm Alan Partridge

  1. I struggle to think of single episodes normally but Blink was the best Doctor Who episode I can think of. Oh and Work Outing episode of the IT Crowd.

  4. The one in Line of Duty where Steve was on his back in a van during an ambush and headshot a sniper in a window. (Rest of that season was meh, what was that ending?)

  5. A few come to mind.

    Last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth is an obvious one. Doesn’t get much better than that.

    The Reichenbach Fall episode of Sherlock. It’s a shame it went a bit downhill after that. The episode was excellent.

    The Speed episode of Father Ted. Absolute comedy gold.

    The Aberfan episode of The Crown is about as good as it gets with that series. I’m not a massive fan of the show but that episode is excellent and Olivia Coleman is fantastic.

    The HIGNFY episode where Angus Deyton gets ripped to shreds but takes his medicine like a G.

    Or that Buzzcock’s episode where Preston throws a tantrum (and Amstell also ends up looking a helmet).

  7. The episode of Peep Show where they’re on the narrow boat and accidentally kill and barbecue Mummy the dog. In a show full of cringe, this one always gets me. Or the Thick of It when Peter Mannion and Nicola face off on Five Live.

  10. The HIGNFY tub of lard episode was genius.

    But, arguably, the S1E1 of Utopia.

    Honourable mention to the “cardigans” episode of Misfits.

  13. Inside No 9 – The Riddle Of The Sphinx. Everything about the episode itself was incredible but >!setting the Guardian cryptic crossword that day as well to set up for the episode was genius.!<

  14. The Thick Of It. The episode with The Fucker is permanently imprinted in my brain.

  16. S02, E01 Blackadder. The Lord Flash heart episode.

  17. Blink and the Van Gogh one from Dr Who, 2 brilliant episodes for different reasons. Older would be last episode of Black Adder goes forth. There’s a couple of really old episodes of Grange hill from late 70’s early 80’s that really stuck with me as a kid.

  18. The “Brown world” episode of the Saturday Night Armistace. I thought this was hysterically funny as a teen.

  19. Top Gear Vietnam special.

    Camille – Red Dwarf. It’s a banana.

  20. The Peep Show episode “Shrooming”. 

    Super Hans, Johnson and Big Mad Andy all make an appearance…

  35. The last episode of Torchwood before they handed it to the US – Children of Earth, Day 5. Contains possibly one of my favourite scenes in all of TV with heartbreaking music and absolutely stunning acting by Peter Capaldi (if you know the scene then you know).

  36. The Royle Family episode where Nana’s neighbour Elsie has just died.

    This Time With Alan Partridge – the episode with the Irish lookalike.

    I May Destroy You – the last episode.

  37. The Bottom episode ‘Accident’, mainly because it’s provided me with lots of witty quotes to use over the years, most of time they’re met with confusion.

    ‘Communication Problems’ episode of Fawlty Towers. ‘Is this a piece of your brain?’

  39. Friday Night Dinner- The Fox (s3ep2)

    Has me crying every time: Dad has been secretly hiding a dead fox in the outside freezer, as he wants to get it stuffed

  40. The first episode of the second series of Fleabag is the best half hour of telly I have ever seen.
