A person “familiar” with the German gov’s position confirms to POLITICO’s Berlin Playbook that the Chancellor did indeed mean with yesterday’s remark that Ukraine could strike back with Western weapons on Russian soil.

  1. >on Russian soil.

But not Russian soldiers and machinery. Only soil!

  2. But the Chancellor won’t give them effective tools for the job…

  3. It’s interesting to see to military approval process ifrom the outside. In short, discussion for removing Ukraine restrictions has been intensifying among allies since the start of Kharkiv attack but was already discuss for months.

The “for” nations rapidly show their cards (Poland, Dutch, Estonia, UK, Sweden), than the main support leaders (US and France/Germany for Europe) finally accepted internally. France made their stance public and now Germany, with the US soon to do it (US military and government having more internal steps for such important commitment).

The same process happenned for tanks and jets.
