  1. The SNP are really doing everything they can to inflict damage on themselves over this.

  2. I love the self inflicted wounds so close to an election lol

  3. swinney doing whatever the political equivalent is of the hokey cokey… “in,out,in,out and shake it all about”

  4. Oh my fucking god Swinney get fucking rid of him! Fuck I could a better job than that twat because the only football matches I watch are Scotland matches!

  5. Not just Swinney – it’s now back to being the official SNP position. They’ve gone from opposing the ban, to saying they’ll support it (with reservations) and are now back again at saying they’ll oppose it.

It’s truly mystifying that Swinney would blow so much political capital on an issue with no conceivable upside for him, his party or the Scottish Government. Especially so soon after becoming FM and during an election campaign where he’s already looking at losing seats.

He’s handed the opposition two huge wins here. They get to attack the SNP (again) for appearing soft on financial impropriety. They also get to attack them for flip-flopping on even that.

  6. This is mind boggling.

The only conclusion one can draw is that Matheson has material / intel which, if made public – or handed over to Inspector Knacker – could fatally wound the SNP and bring down the government. Nothing else can justify the humiliating, indefensible, poll-damaging gyrations which two FMs have performed in order to defend Matheson.

  7. Out of curiosity – where the BBC are showing the numbers of MSPs – it can’t possibly be right that Matheson would be able to vote on his own suspension, can it? So the SNP should be down one for this vote specifically?

  8. Any criticism of other party u-turns is gone now.

The SNP can’t decide if they support lies and theft or not.

  9. I can see why he didn’t last as leader the first time

  10. Due process and all that, but come the f on.

Who in the SNP thinks their voters cannot clearly see what has happened here?

He lied to parliament. He tried to avoid paying a bill that, to be exceptionally generous, should have rang massive fucking alarm bells, and turned out to be the result of him missing appointments to have his SIM card changed over, and didn’t bother doing it himself when they sent one to his house.

You can take things further, and examine the timeline, which suggests they only fessed up publicly (having already told Yousaf) because the Parliamentary body released, in response to FOI, when the data was used and it was blindingly obviously over an Old Firm match day.

It’s not a criminal sanction, and yet the SNP are avoiding sending a clear message that this sort of behaviour, which their members of the Committee do not dispute happened, is unacceptable.

They’re avoiding it by desperately clinging to a degree of process that is more aligned with when an accused person faces court, not a wage sanction in a job from which they cannot be fired!

    Fucking pathetic, John.

  11. Snp are doing so many U turns they’ve forgotten which way they are going

  12. What is the bill? And why does it matter ? (Out of the loop here)

  13. What about a minute’s silence for us TAX PAYERS. Thieving swamp dwellers

  14. So instead of condemning his corruption he stands by him until it becomes politically inconvenient and then he immediately throws under the nearest metaphorical bus. Corrupt with no integrity, that’s the snp

  15. John Swinney continued by saying he intends to throw spanners into the engines of MV Glen Sannox and Glen Rosa so he can have a turn on that almost-solved scandal as well

  16. Trump can shoot somebody on 5th Avenue in broad daylight and his supporters would still vote for him. If SNP voters have the same blind loyalty to John Swinney, SNP would have no problems.

I cannot believe that not one SNP MSP had the guts to oppose Swinney on this issue.

  17. What a daft hill to die on. 5 minutes in the door and this is one of his priorities? Baffling.
