‘Absolute rubbish’: lawyer rejects Paula Vennells answer at Horizon IT inquiry

you couldn’t be bothered could you miss Fel the risk was too great looking under that rock you’re going to find a problem it’s going to devastate the post office ruin it you couldn’t let that happen could you miss Fel I loved the post office I gave it I I worked as hard as I possibly could to deliver the best post office for the UK it would have been wonderful to have 30,000 post office branches that would have been the best outcome ever to have had more post offices in more communities what I failed to do and I have made this clear previously is I did not recognize the and it’s been discussed within across the inquiry the imbalance of power between the institution and the individual and I let these people down I am very aware of that and we should have had better governance in place we should have had better data reporting in place that meant that we could see what was happening to individual postmasters and to the system that was not the case at no time did I put the post office over the cases that were brought forwards I worked as hard as I could and to the best of my ability and I am very sorry that I was not able to find out what the inquiry has found out out I don’t know today how much wasn’t told to me I do know information that I didn’t get and I don’t know in some cases why it didn’t reach me but my only motivation was for the best for the Post Office and for the hundreds of postmasters that I met and I regret deeply that I let these people down V that’s absolute rubbish isn’t it under your leadership with your Sidekick Mrs Vander Bogart you took on the glow litigant in the high court fighting tooth and nail allowing councel on behalf of the post office to cross-examine the litigants on the basis that the losses were their fault due to their incompetence or dishonesty that’s what happened under your leadership

The former Post Office chief Paula Vennells gave a tearful reply to a question from Sam Stein KC on her final day of testimony, saying: ‘I loved the Post Office. I gave it … I worked as hard as I possibly could to deliver the best Post Office for the UK.’ Stein responded at the end of her answer: ‘That’s absolute rubbish’

  1. She needs go to jail. If we do not do this we have boards all over the country who will not see an example for cover up or laziness and not looking after their workers.

  2. She's not very "christian" is she. Bearing false witness, greed, proud, arrogance and hubris. No sympathy for her,.. she knew what was going on and is responsible for the hurt, suffering, deaths, bankruptcies and false imprisonment. She should have been arrested the moment she had finished giving evidence. The vilest of the vile.

  3. But the problem is and it’s still stands many innocent people took their lives many innocent people who charged mistake of your cover-up. The only reason you’re sorry is because you were caught under your management.

  4. If the next government want an instant win, they need to put her in jail for a long time when they get in.

  5. If you're happy to take the position, status and salary of Post Office CEO, then you need to understand the position you will rightly find yourself in should the effluent hit the fan. Quite simply she is either grossly incompetent or outright dishonest. Private Eye has been banging on about this scandal for well over a decade so there is zero excuse for her claiming to have no knowledge of the situation. Even if she wasn't solely responsible for this outrage, looking into the allegations and acting correctly should have been her number one priority, but it seems that protecting her own status was a greater priority. The Church of England needs to undergo a period of deep self-reflection to understand why they let someone as vile/incompetent as this act as their representative.

  6. She is only '''upset''' cause she has been found out ….but she is a multi millionaire so doesn't give a toss….only wants to protect herself and assets…..jail time of at least 20 years is needed….no question…assets frozen and redistributed to all affected….

  7. Should be stripped off everything she’s had from the post office this includes disgusting amounts of money and bonuses… she’s a lier put her in jail 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

  8. The failure of our politicians, police, regulators, to investigate something that has been apparent through the media for many years is the true story. Only too often these failures are brushed aside – Hillsborough is another major catastrophe that took years and years to eventually surface. This inquiry should also about all those in authority outside the Post Office.

  9. Lives ruined by her malpractice (or if you believe her story, glaring oversights), can't be given back. I'm sure she will escape any kind of meaningful justice, because she's rich and thats always the way! True justice would have her locked up, stripped of the wealth she generated from the role at the post office and never be given a position of power ever again. The church would do well to disassociate itself from her as well!

  10. Not fooling anyone, cover up let’s hop the police investigation weeds out the law breakers and they all get charged.

  11. There is a plant in court…..listen closely to the first pause, a signal from someone in the court room by making a brief noise…then the Oscar nomination for best actress in the up coming post office movie-crying dry eyes-……the not well known British greedy actress …..Paula Vennels (pos)

  12. The big reveal yet to come is what became of all the money paid back (by the SubPostmasters) that wasn't owed to anyone. It ended up in SOMEONE'S bank account! In the Watergate scandal of 1974 the mantra was "Follow the Money". Has that changed? Where is the MONEY?

  13. Crying for herself. The question is what will the consequences be of her reprehensible actions? Look at the misery and suffering that she caused. Then just deny all knowledge of anything. She knew what was going on ages ago and chose to double down, cover it up and saw people’s lives ruined with no problem to her. She is a liar. The only thing she is sorry about is that it was all uncovered and she was caught out.

  14. she said she loved the Post Office and i think thats part of the problem , she would do anything for the p/o even ruining peoples lives .

  15. Give back the money you made Vennells if you’re truly sorry…..keep the money if you are what we all think you are.
