  1. >The pop icon is set to bring entertainment and economic value, coined the ‘Swift lift’, with shows across the UK expected to gross a combined £1 billion according to Barclays.

I’m no Swift fan myself, but it’s crazy how influential she seems to be.

  2. Really?
There will be people from outwith Scotland spending £100million in Scotland for her 3 gigs in Edinburgh?
Because that’s what “bring £100m to Scotland’s economy” means.

  3. I wish she would write a song to brainwash the swiftlets into:

pick up your rubbish and save the planet as you go along,

dumping your water bottles isn’t good for the froggy spawn

Killing all the turles and the dolphins too

and protest water companies for ejecting your pooh…… into the oceans ,

yeah eeeh into the oceans, the ooooeeee oooohhh shauns.

  4. I would have hoped people would have booked hotels already considering the gig is a little over a week away.

  5. Imagine if Edinburgh had a large capacity concert venue where stuff like this could happen regularly.

  6. Wonder if any of that money will be seen by homeless charities or the council who have forced some of the most vulnerable people on to taxis to cities hundreds of miles away?

  7. But these only benefit chain businesses- chain restaurants, chain hotels, etc.

It’d very rarely it direct helps ‘local’ economy and ‘locals’. Huge events like this can be more negative than positive for locals.

  8. The title being what it is, it basically means people are spending £100 million at a time that they wouldn’t be.  Concerts and events draw in money.

I’m sure the same was/is written about the fringe.

  9. 🤣🤣🤣Quick get Swifty signed up to the Indy campaign, she the replacement for the oil revenue🤣🤣🤣

  10. On a much less funny note, apparently [homeless people are being shifted out of their temporary accommodation ](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd11em0e5e6o.amp) to make room for this economic marvel.

I really hope that whoever decided to make the most vulnerable people who live in Edinburgh travel hundreds of miles so that they can milk this for a few final drops are really fucking proud of themselves.
