  1. Constantinople had already fallen ~250 years earlier during the 4th crusade. The Latins held it for a few decades before the Greeks yoinked it back. So the idea that Constantinople was this inpenetrable fortress was always a bit suspect.

  5. The Europeans gave as much help and support to the Byzantines as the Arabs did.

  6. Europe kind of had their hand in that. The greeks didnt want let the crusaders in the gates in 1200, the crusaders ended up raiding the shit out of it. Instead of continuing the crusade the just stayed there. By the time they left and the greeks took it back, it was in shambles and they lost their trade prowess with the fertile crescent. Europeans didnt care about it anymore. Basically handed it to the turks.
