This is true. No one facilitating a Trump presidency is progressive.
Nobody but maga republicans and foreign adversaries want a Trump presidency.
No rational human should want that rotting pumpkin to be president again
No normal people want a tRump Presidency
No Shit Sherlock
Well I guess if I don’t want a fascist-traitor-christian nationalist-rapist-psychopath as president, I’m a “leftist”. Ok.
Who cares whether or not they want a Trump presidency? The question that is pressing is “Are they gonna vote? Or are they going to let Trump win by not voting because voting for the lesser evil is beneath them?”
No American wants a maggot Trump presidency.
There are a lot of leftists who aren’t willing to vote against one though.
I beg to differ, many “leftists” want to abstain voting because of shit that is happening in another country, and think that’ll somehow teach them a lesson while pushing the US further and further toward fascism. They seem oblivious to any consequences.

>I think it is in very large part Lyndon Johnson’s fault that Democrats lost the White House in 1968, Hillary Clinton’s fault that the Democrats lost in 2016, and it will be in very large part Joe Biden’s fault if he loses reelection.
>But even if one does take the position that it is our job to help Joe Biden defeat Donald Trump
Yeah.. this is where I start to lose the author on their philosophy.
Yes, politicians need to earn votes. That’s, well.. politics.
In turn, they carry responsibility if they lose. That’s obvious.
And finally, as the entire article seems to hinge its argument – yes we can criticize politicians to our heart’s delight and shouldn’t be shamed into not doing so.
But none of this absolves some 160 million voters or 258 million people of any responsibility either – y’know, the entire adult population of the country. Including the media, our own social groups, our own culture, corporate influences, ~75 million Republican voters, engrained factors such as the electoral college, gerrymandering, etc. etc.
Democracy is a mixed bag of responsibility, and when the finger-pointing starts coming out and tunnel-visions towards candidates as sole scapegoats it becomes lazy and unproductive. It forms the core behind apathetic philosophy, and it often goes too far and goes against the interests of those who promote it.
We can point the finger at Hillary Clinton all we want from 2016. It might feel good and we might be right about a lot of things, but that won’t bring the Supreme Court back. It won’t succeed in ending horrible Trump policies or the limitless damage he caused to our institutions for generations to come.
What *might* help going forward is if we, as a culture and an entire country, make reasoned, pragmatic decisions as adults and *share* the responsibility of the consequences we face. We owe ourselves our votes every bit as much as politicians need to earn them.
People are free to criticize Biden all they want, but it only works if this baseline common sense is kept in mind.
Everyone left of far right shouldn’t want it, but people tend to vote against their own interests or in ignorance
Tell that to my dad, a self proclaimed liberal who is refusing to vote for Biden because “Biden is the reason the student loan system is so fucked.”
DAD THE COUNTRY IS ON FIRE PLEASE JUST VOTE
There’s a small but noisy minority of leftists on Twitter who boast about how they refuse to vote for Biden, to “teach Democrats a lesson”. That’s an awful lot like wanting Trump.
This author annoyingly sidesteps the actual issue at hand; it’s not that criticism is not allowed or unhealthy, it’s that leftists, as this author describes themselves and their publication, have flatly refused to cover anything positive the president has done, or even just acknowledge the limitations of what can be done without control of congress. Hell, the brief aside about Biden’s pro-labor record is literally the first time i’ve ever heard a progressive mention how much the union effort owes to this administration, and I know actual union organizers. Criticism is fine when it’s balanced with context and fair coverage of progress, I’ve seen none of that from the day of Biden’s inauguration
Why do so many on here do the whole “tRump” thing? He’s a despicable human being and it takes away from the depravity of the man. He’s horrible enough without a silly and juvenile spelling of his name.
Makes me think of everyone on the right who has a dumb phrase, spelling, saying, or name for everything just to get people riled up when there’s actually nothing going on.
It’s not that they (anti-electoral DSA-style left) want one, it’s that they’re recklessly indifferent to the outcome despite the fact that it takes two brain cells to realize that a trump presidency or any RW one is a far worse environment for them to promote their goals (AOC had a great quote about this recently). But they’re too childish to suck it up and hold their nose to pull the lever for Biden and Dems. they’d rather pout and protest while trump openly states he’d crack down on activities like the Palestine student protests if re-elected.
I work in healthcare and of course the amount of fox news watching old ppl abound, i had a discussion with one of em asking why they like trump.
1) he’s a business man and he will do well for small businesses
2) he’s strong
3) he can rebuild America back to the way it was
4) the border and illegal immigrants
So okay I go ahead and break it down into how that works
1) so you know trump is a corporate guy and will probably not care about small businesses. Look at the history of corporations buying out small businesses and running them out of town (e.g. Walmart). Her response is of course well trump wouldn’t do that
2) no answer to this as what else can I say lol
3) asked what was it like back in the day and her response was akin to just (my family was an R so we vote R)
4) asked about how that wall was coming along and she basically said it didn’t happen because Dems blocked it.
Couldn’t discuss further because well patients and politics don’t mix.
But plenty of leftists may justify an abstention from voting for Biden by his stance towards Israel, and if enough of them do it in swing states it will lead to the same result — a Trump presidency.
I have a strategy to guarantee the left vote! Cut Israel off.
Anyone who actually cares about the Palestinians should do whatever they can to not let Trump win. That doesn’t mean let up on Biden, but keeping Trump out still leaves the opportunity for progress on Palestine and Gaza, if Trump is in office that’s over.
I don’t know. There are some leftist on Reddit wanting to “protest” against Biden to teach “liberals and Biden” a lesson. They are acellerationists.
There will still be Leftists that vote Green or stay home over a single issue. We need to really put the pressure on to vote for Biden. We can’t have another Bush vs. Gore.
No sane person wants a Trump presidency.
Headlines picked from a hat full of obvious statements someone wrote down for no reason.
No sane person from the political middle wants a fascist pig for president. A democracy functions on the basis of debate and compromise, not on the basis of loyalty to an idiot.
No sane person wants a trump presidency
Not many centrists do either. It’s pretty much about 33% of the population who is heavily brainwashed and the rest are corporate overlords who know exactly who he is and don’t care anyway
But it would teach Biden a lesson and that’s what really matters right? /s
then fucking get off your ass and vote against him. i dont care if you need to turn your nose up to do it, FUCKING DO IT. its far too fucking late to not vote for someone because you disagree with them on a big issue because the options now are either make hundreds of millions of peoples lives a living hell or keep it from getting worse.
i dont care if you think palestine is that important, you are looking at the trolley problem and going “well i would pull the lever but those 5 guys arent really nice” WHEN THE ONE GUY IS LITERALLY SAYING HE WILL KILL YOU WHEN HE GETS OUT
This is patently false. Numerous leftists are telling us they want Joe Biden to lose the election. It’s possible that these leftists haven’t thought this through and don’t realize that a Biden loss necessarily results in a Trump win, or, perhaps, they are expecting some Deus ex machina scenario which results in Rashida Tlaib being elected POTUS. But I think the more likely explanation is that they know damn well that Trump will become POTUS if Biden loses the election, but they’re so mad at “Genocide Joe” for not being able to achieve a socialist paradise in spite of an evenly divided Congress and a SCOTUS controlled by a right-wing Christian cult that they just don’t care.
Anyway, enjoy the MAGA reeducation camps, I’m planning to move to Portugal.
vote democrat ffs
Well, some do. If you visit r/LateStageCapitalism you will regularly find many members that actively promote accelerationism (despite their pinned disclaimer). In my time there I regularly saw people applaud a Trump win because they wanted to see modern society collapse.

Most generalized and obvious title ever written.
No one wants a Trump Presidency.
Replace the word “leftist” with “sane person” and this covers the leftists and a few other folks too.
No reasonable person should.
Seems like lots of leftist figures are perfectly fine with it
Some do. The accelerationists do.
The moral purity ones don’t want it, but view it as an acceptable price for preserving the sanctity of their vote.
The single issue voters are… single issue voters. The one track mind goes to some strange places.
It’s not so much what happens to me if Trump and Republicans destroy the democratic experiment that was the USA, but what will happen to my kids and future generations.
They will be given no hope for a sustainable future. No respect from leaders to their needs.
The economy will tilt even more stridently to the haves vs everyone else. Jobs will be generally poor paying, insecure, gig-based and healthcare costs will be astronomical.
Women will be threatened with the death penalty for miscarriages and especially abortions.
LGBTQ+ will be interred in the modern equivalent of containment camps.
The Internet will be filtered and access monitored+restricted for the genpop.
Cult brainwashing will become the norm in public schools and community monitoring for divergent behavior will be enabled at the level of citizens being able to arrest and/or report those who aren’t conforming to the Republican party line.
etc.
Really, total breakdown of US society will begin in earnest, rather than the spurts and pockets in red states we’re already seeing today.
Source: briefly inculcated by my local town into becoming the VP of my College Republicans chapter, I was a True Believer and it took some time to deprogram myself from the easy entitlement, expected biases and lack of awareness that was enforced among the membership. Then I predicated what would happen when Gore’s victory was stolen in 2000 – everything I said then (on a small website) came true, including the eventual criminalization of abortions and the Supreme Court’s complete corruption. It will only be worse this time around, because there are NO limiters on the Nazi tactics adopted by Republicans that will be put fully into play.
~~Presidency~~. Dictatorship.
No rational person should want fucking Donald Trump to be an unaccountable king.
If someone starts a sentence with “As a leftist, not a liberal,” you’re about to hear a bunch of right-wing talking points.
