And what would be the best time for visiting these places?

Thank you

  1. Ulm and Augsburg are worth a stop but don’t need a full day. Harburg would be nice and not too far. Nördlingen as well. Could make a second day. Nürnberg is worth a full day. So is Munich.

  2. If you’re a car nut, I would add the Auto&Technik Museum in Sinsheim. Not so much a museum as a wild collection of everything with a motor, but you’re driving right past it.

  3. For the part directly south of Frankfurt (A65 & A67) up until Heidelberg, there are pretty scenic routes both to the East and the West of it. I would recommend going West of it, on the other side of the Rhine, you can drive through Rheinhessen and down the [Deutsche Weinstraß](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Wine_Route)e for example, then cross the Rhein again between Mannheim and Karlsruhe to get back to your originally planned route.

  4. Forget about Frankfurt am Main, go to Bamberg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Heidelberg instead

  5. If you’re using the railways, add one extra day or keep a reserve around your travels.

Also I’d really recommend parking up your vehicle in Stuttgart and Munich at a P&R or a hotel and just taking a tram or a metro. The traffic situation in both cities is sub-optimal, especially if you’re anywhere near B14 in Stuttgart or B304/B2 in Munich: and you will intersect these for the Mercedes and BMW museums.

  6. Günzburg – location of Legoland. Not sure whether this is your jam, but I would definitely consider a visit.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Heidelberg and Bamberg are some nice destinations that you should not miss out on.
