1. First the Netherlands with their new right-wing coalition vowing to dismantle the country’s progressive climate legislation, and now New Zealand, one of the world’s few islands of sanity back in 2020/2021.

   And just like the Netherlands did when voting for Geert Wilders, it’s what NZ voted for when they chose Christopher Luxon. Not a majority, but enough to make it happen.

2. In almost every policy space they’re rolling back decades worth of progress.

3. This government is far from universally liked – they are deeply unpopular with a soon-to-be majority of people. As with most right-wing governments elected with the aid of right-wing think tanks (like Atlas Network affiliates), they used manipulative advertising strategies and fear mongering to get elected. The people who voted for them are beginning to feel like they were deceived.

   There are blatant signs of nepotism and cronyism (big tobacco lobbyist language was written into law on tobacco reform, and there have been large donations preceding invites to the Fast-track scheme), and the policies evidentially worsen outcomes they claim to want to address.

   Can only sell BS for so long though, RW sentiment is rising within democracies around the world but it’s expensive for the Uber wealthy to push and sustain, and the narratives are desperate and becoming easy to dismantle under the ever increasing weight of evidence….
