I scoured the Norway subreddit for past suggestions and this is what I came up with for a 8D7N self-drive road trip for the coming August. We enjoy driving, so long/windy roads are fine so long as they are scenic. Kindly let me know what you think! Also seeking recommendations for outdoor saunas along the route, thank you!
Day 1:
Oslo airport – Valdresflya plateau
Skipping E6 as some reddit elders mentioned it's not the most scenic.
Hike Besseggen
Day 2:
Lom – lustrafjorden area
Hike Vettisfossen waterfalls
Day 3:
Early start on drive to Flam, via Bjorgavegen rather than the E16 tunnel.
Kayak the Naeroyfjord at Gudvangen
Drive past Voss to Bergen
Day 4:
Chill in Bergen (any suggestions?)
Day 5:
Leave Bergen towards Kinsarvik via Utne (not sure about this yet, some of you say it is much longer than E16-13, but worth it?)
Detour to Eidfjord+Kjeåsen
Pass odda, Låtefossen
Falkenuten walk
Day 6:
Pass Dalen
Fyresdal walk
Giants kettle (Jettegrytene) swim
Zoom past Vrådal all the way to Oslo
Day 7:
Explore Oslo (any hidden gems?)
Day 8:
Fly back to reality

Too much inland, too little fjords.
2/5
Route doesn’t really look enough like a Christmas tree. 2/5
this has to be satire
Have you ever hiked before? Have you checked the ferry?
Skipping the fjords 🙄 why do most people that post Maps of their roadtrips always skip the fjords?? Thats what norways nature is famous for..
Yeah. That is probably not possible.
Day 1 you reach Valdresflyi but that is about it. Besseggen is 14 km, that is at least 4 hours just hiking. Then you have to get back by either the same way or the ferry.
Route seems like a lot of rushing.
Lofoten is missing.
