  13. I’ve been to Japan in February and ate whale in tsukiji fish market. It was -by far- the most amazing meat I ever had. It tastes like it’s the last bit of God’s mana on earth. I’m not even kidding. It tasted like a mixture of the best qualities from beef filet and the best cuts of tuna combined. My mind was blown, I now understand, why they hunt whale.

  14. Some Japanese attitudes are utterly despicable. Especially their unwillingness of owing up to the horrible Nazi level war crimes they conducted all over Asia and on PoWs and then trying to portray themselves as the victims due to the atomic bombing.

  15. My opinion on Japan has been slowly decreasing over the years.

    Now, officially, it has plummeted.

    I’m not one to ussually enjoy wishing evil upon others, but I do wait for them to have a merry population decline (look at the old population in comparison to the young; they’re collapsing).

  22. Minke, which makes up the vast majority of their relatively small haul, is nowhere near endangered. But that won’t stop pearl-clutchers from shrieking about it while eating far less sustainable animal products.

  23. I’m not sure Japan deserves all the attention concerning the hunting of whales. I have to look it up again but Norway (less so Iceland) is increasing its quota for commercially hunting whales and are by far the largest. Quota is up to 1000 individuals and it removed the uses of the ‘fredskriver’. A device to geolocate the ships, speed, weight of the whales they caught and how many harpoons fired among other things.

    To me it feels much like a step backwards. From my working life experiences fishers are the last cowboys. On the open seas there isn’t much room for social control so it’s not exceptional to bend the rules or outright ignore them.
