Should Kompany implement a similar approach at Bayern, that could appeal to the player to stay. A potential move to Barcelona is currently not a hot topic despite the good relationship between Kimmich and Flick. Barça could not afford Kimmich’s big salary at the moment unless one of their big earners – such as De Jong – leaves the club. The late decision to appoint a new coach is causing Bayern problems – because Kimmich is now focused on the Euros and Max Eberl cannot just speak to an agent as the player represents himself

  3. He’s clearly more effective at right back with a high pressure centre mid to cover(i.e Laimer)

    His assist rate from RB is brilliant, I don’t know why he would want to go back to midfield where he is clearly unsuited unless he plays further forward with a big bully CDM behind him(which we don’t have)

  4. That’s kind of expected to be fair. The man is one of the best players we have so no matter where you play him he is going to deliver, you put him up at striker he’s going to score (some).

    And then it’s ok to play him at right back in international games where Germany is hard pressed to find any alternative. That said, he’s not a right back and consistently playing him as one in a club like Bayern is straight mismanagement.

    So the plan should be: either play him in his position or sell.

  5. Tbh, Kimmich is perfect for Kompanys style. A RB that pushes forward to central midfield, similar to how Lahm played under Pep.

    Basically like Maatsen at Burnley just opposite site

  15. It’s as easy as playing a 433 instead of a 4231. Unfortunately Müller is not starter anymore so It’s as easy as playing a Laimer DM, Kimmich and Goretzka CMs midfield and Bambi LW Kane ST Sane RW attack. Goretzka also plays better when he has less defensive duties and he’s really good at finding the ST with through balls. Pair that with Kimmich not leaving the huge gap behind him when going forward and you’ve got yourself a good chance of building a much better team with literally the same players

  16. Maybe it’s just my timeline but since the endless “who’s gonna be new coach” headlines ended, I get a “Kimmich wants/does/says…” every single day.

    Maybe that dude is one out of the many reasons why Bayerns interna are Public all the time. (Of course next to others like Uli, Kalle and so on).
