Hi folks, I just wanna preface by saying I learned my lesson to not take my eyes of my belongings and to always have it on me.

This 12pm I went into Pret a Manger right next Finsbury Park to buy myself a bottle of water. Figured I could place my bag right next to a table and then grab a bottle of water for me to purchase. Only for it to disappear when I turned my back after for just few seconds!!! All of this inside the coffee shop.

I was in that area to attend my visa appointment at VFS and missed it for obvious reason above. I'm absolutely devasted about its loss and on top of that, I'll have no choice but to get an emergency passport from my country's embassy here in London.

Moreover I have already reported to the police via emergency number through my phone since they have access to the CCTV in Pret a Manger shop but to no avail they said on email that they had to close investigation and cannot help me further!!

Finally, I have also reported stolen items on Immobilise including my laptop's serial number and its manufacturer brand and type. However after reading some posts about this similar incident, it's likely that my laptop will be reset. I even tried using track my device feature on Microsoft but its last known location was yesterday 🙁

If you guys could spread word about this or offer any advice, I'd definitely appreciate it thank you!!

  1. Keep looking at back alleys and bins nearby. I once had my bag stolen and it turned up a couple of days later. Cash, phone, etc. gone but did get my passport and a few other things back!

    Either way, good luck.

  2. Lesson learned the hard way not to leave anything unattended.

The thieves would likely have grabbed it, run off somewhere nearby, rifled through it for what they want to keep and dump the rest. Maybe walking the streets nearby where it was stolen might get lucky and find what’s left, but it would be luck.

  3. Check the bins and also ask in local shops to see if anyone has found any of the contents of your bag.

I’m sorry this has happened to you.

  4. Part & Parcel of living in a big city.

Blame local politicians for widespread crime, I hope you recover your stolen goods

  5. Sorry for what happenned to you. But come on , always leave your stuff with you.

  6. Why did the police say they’ll close the investigation?

  7. Hey folks just realised it’s not Finsbury Park my mistake!!

    It’s Finsbury Square

  8. Best of luck. Police won’t do anything, we had this happen to my mate at a pub in Holborn, we even had CCTV footage with the face of the thief. If you’ve got anything insured you’ll need the police report, otherwise it’s useless.

What the guy at the pub told us though was that it was worth it to take the picture of the thief to other shops in the area, because these guys usually go around and someone might recognise them eventually/catch them in the act. If you’ve got that from pret I’d give it a go.
