The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the federal agency that predicts changes in climate, weather, oceans, and coastlines and provides data that informs lifesaving forecasts such as tracking hurricanes, is in the crosshairs of Project 2025, the conservative battle plan for a potential second Trump presidency which describes NOAA as a “colossal operation that has become one of the main drivers of the climate change alarm industry.” But researchers have pushed back on these charges and defended NOAA’s climate data and meteorological work — while forecasters are predicting an “extremely active” Atlantic hurricane season and experts say this summer could rival last year’s record heat.
Project 2025’s call to dismantle NOAA by eliminating or privatizing key functions of the agency is the endgame of years of attempts by conservatives and right-wing media to attack the credibility of the agency and the veracity of the data it produces. It also illustrates that the conservative plan is not just to dismantle U.S. climate policy, but also to scrub the climate data that underpins it.

Some facts about Project 2025: The “Mandate for Leadership” is a set of policy proposals authored by the [Heritage Foundation](https://pro-lies.org/the-heritage-foundation/), an influential *ultra* conservative think tank. [Project 2025](https://www.mediamatters.org/heritage-foundation/guide-project-2025-extreme-right-wing-agenda-next-republican-administration) is a revision to that agenda tailored to a second Trump term. It would give the President [unilateral powers](https://theweek.com/politics/heritage-foundation-2025-donald-trump), strip [civil rights, worker protections, climate regulation](https://www.stopthecoup2025.org/impact-overview), add [religion into policy](https://imgur.com/a/m2e72ht), outlaw [“porn”](https://www.salon.com/2024/03/19/decoding-project-2025s-christian-nationalist-language/) and much more. The MFL has been around since 1980, [Reagan implemented 60%](https://www.heritage.org/conservatism/commentary/reagan-and-heritage-unique-partnership) of it’s recommendations, [Trump 64%](https://www.heritage.org/impact/trump-administration-embraces-heritage-foundation-policy-recommendations) – [proof](https://www.scribd.com/document/369820462/Mandate-for-Leadership-Policy-Recommendations). 70 Heritage Foundation alumni served in his administration or transition team. Project 2025 is quite extreme but with his obsession for revenge he’ll likely get past 2/3rd’s adoption.
r/Defeat_Project_2025 intends to stop it through activism and awareness, focused on crowdsourcing ideas and opportunities for practical, in real life action. We Must Defeat Project 2025.
In other words, be prepared to pay for the weather forecast. Airport forecasts and beach forecasts will be a premium subscription. Hurricanes, blizzards and tornadoes will be part of the premium plus package.
Yes, let’s shoot the messenger rather than deal with the massive issue they’re reporting on. If we plug our ears it isn’t really happening right?
The people who would be most affected are the ones who live within 100 miles of the coast in the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. When I lived in eastern NC, *everyone* there relied on the NOAA hurricane forecasts during hurricane season.
So of course, all but two of those states will vote by double-digit margins for the candidate who wants to dismantle NOAA and endanger their lives, because something something trans people.
Somehow I think Russia is behind this to completely destabilize America from the inside out.
1) cancel the agencies that track climate changes and patterns,
2) no reports of severe weather means they won’t exist
3) ??????
4) profit
People this is why you need to vote for Democrats up and down the ticket. Not even the hurricanes, but you see how many tornadoes we had already. Republicans just won people die at this point.
In what world does it make sense to dismantle the NOAA?
the new right wing in the Netherlands of all places is up to something similar.
the barbarians are at the gates.. ,
