Harris could be tempted to get his own mandate as taoiseach from the people?
FFFG will be back, and a general election is imminent.
If the leaflets coming through my door are any indication of what we’re to expect from the new independents on the rise, we are fucked.
When FFG get back in and all the same problems exist in 5 years time and the same old excuses get rolled out by the usual suspects, then the electorate have no room for whining. You have been warned.
>In a forced choice, the public voted overwhelming in favour of the next government being a combination of Fine Gael-Fianna Fail-Independents (59pc) rather than a Sinn Féin led government excluding Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil (41pc).
I don’t think Philip Ryan understands what overwhelming means.
Well I guess that’s it we are basically getting the shite government we had from 2016-2020 except the independents will have even more influence this time.
Sinn Fein will rue this election as an even bigger open goal miss than the last one.
I called it shortly after the Dublin riots that they would lose tonnes of votes as there is _huge_ support among a lot of their historical base for anti, or at least heavily managed migration, stances and that for too long SF were the only option for flag waving nationalists but that’s no longer the case and the votes are melting away.
Mary Lou spent too long following Gerry’s instruction regarding the use of political correctness as a weapon but the party got carried away with itself and started to dip into the waters of ‘men bad, white people bad, white men worst’ mixed with open borders sentiment to ‘own da racists’.
Its blown up in their faces now and its very funny watching the party that boasted and being closest to its base and more clued in to their thinking suddenly finding out that simply isn’t the case at all.
Independents are a very viable vote in local and EU elections. The same can’t really be said for general elections
It’ll be interesting to see if this trend holds true for the generals
It’s important to remember this is a GE poll and won’t translate 1:1 to the vote on Friday.
Sinn Féin will underperform this poll, they don’t have the popular local candidates and incumbency of FF/FG/Inds.
At the same time smaller parties like SDs/Greens/Lab/Aon will be able to take advantage of reverse momentum against SF in certain constituencies. Will make for a very interesting and unpredictable count in many areas.
Voting independent in a GE is a cop out. The whole point is to choose a government, imagine there were 170 independents in the dail and what sort of govt we would end up with.
Not surprised really. Think Independents are the way to go. All the parties are shite.
Fine Gael and Fianna Fail has been in government the last twenty plus years.
Sinn Fein are shooting themselves in the foot. I honestly think they want to stay in opposition.
Green Party are the party of Tax Tax Tax. The solution for everything is a new charge or tax. Done nothing for transport. No large scale infrastructure projects announced. Only care about Dublin
Social Democrats are labour 2.0
People Before Profit don’t realise there’s a world outside the pale.

Gonna see if I can trademark the words ‘A strong, independent voice. Would make an absolute fortune every election poster season.
I don’t get the point of voting for independents. They’re never going to get into government, so they’re guaranteed to be in opposition. It’s not going to change anything.
If you want someone other than FF and FG then your only option is SF. Regardless of what you think about them, they’re the only choice. Vote for Inds and you get FF / FG again
I don’t buy the spin of SF falling behind. Everyone I’ve spoken to is voting for them & ignoring Everyone else.
Most independents are FFG run off or hard right loopers. I’m good for that shite.
This is a real shame, anyone that knows our system will understand that independents have no power on their own and in order to get stuff done, they’ll need to side with a party when elected. This is going to be another win for FF/FG
Local elections are a bit different (& Europe)
For local elections I don’t vote along party lines and more much more concentrated on the candidate themselves. I doubt I’m the only one either.
For example, my preference for locals is going to a socialist party candidate, not because I’m a huge fan of the socialist party but due to the candidates track record locally and projects delivered while they were councillors previously.
Sinn Fein on the other hand have rolled out a load of unknown candidates in my area, I’m not going to vote for those who don’t have a track record locally either in the CoCo or in general.
If FF or FG had an amazing candidate, I’d vote for one of those too. Again, party means fuck all to me in the locals – GE is a very different matter.
This country desperately needs a non FF/FG government, but it genuinely looks as though SF are happy to stay in opposition.
Everything they have been doing/ saying recently seems to be aimed at driving away their voters base.
That’s not a ‘Poll Shock’.
Wouldn’t shock me if Harris called a GE soon with these numbers.
Looks like my generation won’t be moving out any time soon 🙁 better start looking at nice counties to emigrate to
I have to say I’m really enjoying the downfall of SF at the moment
I think the polls will be way of reality
Most are sick to death of the political shitshow we have since and including Covid, and most are not even interested until voting day (i.e not participating in political polls)
Have you noticed the individuals behind certain leaflets are constantly harassing, intimidating and threatening Sinn Fein. I am convinced they are doing the dirty work for the government and it seems to be working.

Had an independent call to the door yesterday. Talked a good game, how he was on the old town council and looking to get back into local politics because of the flooding (I’m in Midleton) and how he’d fight to help the town that way.
After he left I googled him and found quotes from when he was last a councillor.
“How can they do this to him?” and “Flood plain? The area doesn’t flood” after the government at the time stopped a developer from building another development on what central government had correctly labelled as the Midleton flood plain.
Honest question folks, who the fuck do vote for… can’t have FF and FG, SF aren’t the answer, independents can’t come together, too many individual needs for their own area (small minded) so who does leave you with?
