  1. > Now she has told The Times of London she was mocked for saying that, and reflected: “I never meant to imply that I didn’t get the part for nepotistic reasons — I think I totally did.”

    > She added that Tarantino deliberately added her to the cast, which also included Margaret Qualley (Andie MacDowell’s daughter) and Rumer Willis (daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis), and that he was making an effort to “cast a lot of young Hollywood.”

  2. We already knew this.

Maya Hawke is a rare case of a celebrity couples child being the genuine article.

  3. “reveals” … as if it was a secret nobody had realised lol

  4. Atleast she’s honest about it. Respect. She fit the aesthetic for that character too.

  5. Did she have to audition at least?

    Because she nailed the role.

It’s one thing if Nepotism got you an interview, and another if it just straight up got you the job. Given Tarantino, I can see him yes, seeking out the kids of friends for these roles, but also, I don’t think he would ever compromise his own movie if he felt they didn’t have the talent for the role.

Definitely awesome of he to acknowledge the privilege that nepotism provides her, but it’s hard to say she didn’t earn her place if the film as well.

  6. The only time I ever cared about this was in Under The Silver Lake when the casting of multiple celebrity offspring was actually in service of the overarching plot

  7. Cielo Dr scene sent me on the worst rabbit hole ever.

  8. I don’t care if Maya Hawke gets roles for nepotistic reasons. She’s charming, funny, a good enough actor and she’s good looking. What’s not to like?

  9. Uma to Quentin: “You almost killed me on Kill Bill.  The least you can do is hire my kid.”

  10. She simply had the courage to speak the truth. We already figured that out, but at least she comes across as funny and genuine

  11. But doesn’t that go along with the story or themes. New Hollywood taking over old Hollywood? It fits. Kevin Smith’s daughter is in it too.

  12. I like how people get riled up about nepotism in Hollywood, except for when they don’t and make exceptions constantly.

Almost like it’s a non-issue that doesn’t matter at all.

  13. If Nepo babies want us to like them, then admitting to the advantages they’ve been given is definitely a good start.

  14. Do you know how many actors and actresses would not grace our tv and movie screens if a family member had not given them an opportunity to shine. That is just the way stuff is. Some people are just lucky and we’re born into famous families.

  15. Reveal or admits? 😆 The honestly is cool but I don’t think anyone was questioning that.

  16. I respect her for this. She can recognize it and that’s really what most people want. Don’t pretend like it wasn’t the case. It doesn’t mean she isn’t talented, just that she has an advantage

  17. I mean, nepotism is one of the worst things in modern work culture BUT there is something called “networking” and “family ties” lol.

Next up people will call family businesses nepotism too.

  18. Nepotism in Hollywood?

I’m shocked, I tell you! *Shocked*!

  19. So refreshing…. someone who’s authentic and self-aware! Love Maya!

  20. Plot twist: she’s a really good actress and should be in more roles.

  21. When Maya was a kid she destroyed a hotel room with markers.

Her mom was kinda shitty about it.

I don’t blame her though, she was a toddler.

Sometimes I realize how old I am.

I dealt with people who are now famous who were kids when i encountered them and I had to put up with because of their rich parents.

  22. I’m no fan of nepotism, but I could care less if it happens in Hollywood. Being movie famous is not a viable career path for 99.9999% of the population and it never will be. If anything it pushes people to pursue careers they actually have a shot at attaining.

  23. I really love this response and mindset:

Asked whether she thought famous off-spring deserved these kinds of leg-up opportunities, Hawke said:

“‘Deserves’ is a complicated word. There are so many people who deserve to have this kind of life who don’t, but I think I’m comfortable with not deserving it and doing it anyway. And I know that my not doing it wouldn’t help anyone. I saw two paths when I was first starting, and one of them was: change your name, get a nose job and go to open casting roles.

“It’s OK to be made fun of when you’re in rarefied air. It’s a lucky place to be. My relationships with my parents are really honest and positive, and that supersedes anything anyone can say about it.”

  24. It’s nice that she is at least an honest nepo-baby. Usually they flip out and cry to their parents and their parent’s publicists, it’s refreshing that she owns it

  25. Nepotism gets the foot in the door, but they still have to deliver. She delivers.
