Trump Has Few Ways to Overturn His Conviction as a New York Felon — New York appellate courts rarely overturn a jury decision without evidence of serious errors. The judge in Donald J. Trump’s case closed off many avenues.

    >Trump, the first American president to be branded a criminal, is banking on the jury not having the final word on his legal fate or his political fortunes. He will now appeal, both to a higher court and the American people, seeking to contain the fallout as he campaigns for the White House.

    >But even if the former — and possibly future — president persuades voters to toss his conviction aside, the appellate courts might not be so sympathetic.

    >Although Mr. Trump proclaimed at a news conference on Friday that he had plenty of ammunition to overturn what he called “this scam,” several legal experts cast doubt on his chances of success, and noted that the case could take years to snake through the courts.

  2. After the NY courts tell him to get bent. He will take it to the Supreme Court where he will argue that the trial was illegal and violated his rights.

Where the Supreme Court will side with Trump. Because they are corrupt.

  3. “Sorry losers and haters, but my IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure; it’s not your fault.” – Donald J. Trump.

  4. The throw piles of shit at the wall to see what sticks’ defense will usually cover a lot of those.

  5. IANAL, but from what I understand the conviction on all charges is going to be especially hard to overcome.

  6. The judge in this trial is what I used to think judges were and represented. Put up with a ton of crap but maintained composure. Made sure that justice was served. Nothing I read or heard sounded political at all. They don’t make ’em like that anymore, apparently.

  7. The echo of their chorus of womp womps is just reaching their ears.

    *womp womp*

  8. I’ve said the entire time, this case wouldn’t have been brought to trial if there weren’t an ironclad case and they didn’t have a mountain of evidence of Trump’s guilt.

  9. I think Trump now wants the appeal process for his convictions in this Manhattan case to speed up. How ironic, that when he is convicted, he wants the courts to move faster. But when he is waiting for trial, he wants the courts to move slower and delay the trial to after the election.

I hope the appellate court in New York take their time. Because this orange criminal needs to have the honor of having the title “Convicted Felon” when it comes to election day in November.

  10. Right, it’s super rare for an appeal on jury convictions to be accepted, in this case all 12 jurors said guilty on 34 counts and there’s no way any appeals judge will spend time on that

  11. The entire basis of Trump’s appeal is a,ready known: “I did nothing wrong. Rigged trial. Conflicted judge. Biden’s fault. Election interference.”

  12. Can you imagine if this orange mf wins POTUS in November. That would be game over for the USA as we know it, goodbye to NATO, Taiwan, South Korea and possibly Japan and the Philippines. The Baltics would become Russian territory within weeks.

  13. He can’t pardon himself. It’s a state case. And requires the governor to pardon him.

At this point you honestly think Kathy Hocul would do such a thing?

    Hell the fuck no.

We are all taking hypothetical at this point what will happen.

This fucker is going to get jail. There are people that have had remorse in cases like this and got jail.

He needs to be held accountable regardless of the reaction by the cult.

  14. It’s almost like they followed the law and executed them dutifully.

  15. Wouldn’t he have to overturn all 34 counts? Unlikely he’ll be able to overturn any of them.

  16. You can file an appeal.after you finish your IRS audit. Since it’s related to financial crimes …let’s start there.

  17. The appeal is not being done with the goal of overturning the verdict. It’s being done with the goal to delay things as long as possible.

  18. His only hope for overturning this one has always been the court he got to stack: SCOTUS

  19. I’d argue that Trump closed off many avenues himself, and the judge did his due diligence in rightfully not showing him bias and favor. Trump shouldn’t be getting leniency just because of his status. He shows no remorse and in fact actively works to disrespect law and order with violent rhetoric and constant lies.

  20. It will never be overturned, but that will take many years for him to find out.

  21. There is no real issue for the Supreme Court to get involved, right? Have a feeling they would find an 1847 rule to keep him out of trouble.

  22. I’m more concerned about whether there is an avenue to take this to the Supreme Court. I read a source that mentioned that the weight of their appeal will hinge heavily on falsifying docs as it relates to the election

  23. Apparently some experts think that him going to prison is unlikely due to his age. But him running for president that is ok.

  24. >The experts noted that the judge, whose rulings helped shape the case, stripped some of the prosecution’s most precarious arguments and evidence from the trial.

So the publisher here is being facetious with the subheading. The paper’s analysis here is that the judge was too thorough in being fair to Trump, so Trump already got an exceptionally fair case against him that was not allowed to be aggressive against him. Trump was handled with a lot of respect, so there isn’t much to appeal in the proceedings.

  25. After reading that article I can safely say the “Trump will easily win his appeal” crowd have no idea what they are talking about.

  26. It won’t matter. The GOP is the party of spineless sheeple so bathed in FOX vitriol and propaganda as to have become a cult of mindless automatons.

  27. What would a maget say if Joe Biden paid off a pornstar before the election ?

  28. Merchan’s leniency towards Trump was, I think, deliberate, and aimed at the appeal process.

It’s difficult for Trump to argue that Merchan was biased against him when he let him walk on contempt charges and gag order violations that any other single US citizen would have been thrown in jail for.

  29. I’m not a lawyer but it really seemed like the judge made all the right decisions, foreseeing and preparing for the outcome, knowing who he’s dealing with.

  30. The judge was really great at maintaining composure. He had every right to jail Trump for violating the gag order, many times, but just hit him with small fines instead. It’s impossible to say that Judge Merchan was unfair to him.
