  1. Maybe it’s just diplomatic talk but China is clearly preparing for a conflict so the USA should better be ready too, just in case.

  2. Except when China make the first move toward Taiwan. Then all bets will be off.

Putin thought Ukraine will be cakewalk. Hope China is not be stupid like Russia.

  3. When politicians threaten war, its usually just bluster. When they promise peace for our time, it makes me worried.

  4. In my opinion the best way to avoid open hostilities with China would be by ending all the beating around the bush and draw a line in the sand, instead of being so ambiguous about it just let them know what our redlines are and assure them we will respond with force if they’re crossed.

As it stands China is just going to keep poking the bear until they finally get bit.

  5. It’s not just Taiwan that could be a flashpoint here; the US is also treaty’d with the Philippines and with China’s constant water cannon attacks on Phill ships… some small altercation could quickly spiral out of much smaller islands disputes, dragging in major conflict.

Not to mention China’s demographic woes and their collapsing real estate markets… it’s no wonder Xi is feeling the pressure considering he basically ran on re-unification. He can’t back down or save face against the politburo.

    And as always,

    Fuck the CCP.

  6. A naval invasion of Taiwan would be devastating for China. There are only a few beaches suitable for an invasion and the Taiwanese can hold a select few routes through the mountains to completely halt the Chinese.

  7. Doubtful, both countries can’t exist economically without the other. We might not like each other, but we live together, and we have bills to pay..

  8. Once upon a time the United States wouldn’t give up on Cuba either. Similar outcome expected in this situation of China wanting Taiwan.

  9. China, for all its shit, can be reasoned with.

It has shown time and time again to take rational decisions and to prioritize making money over pointless wars.

Taking over Taiwan would make no sense for China in current time. There would be no gain:

    – The CCP is already very high in approval and doesn’t need a war to turn attention

    – Economically it would be a disaster that would cripple if not collapse the Chinese economy (30% GDP contraction after 1 year of war is expected)

    – Militarily it could not be made into a lighting operation due to how well defended the island is and China knows it.

That said the Chinese economy is slowing down and no one knows what the future holds.

But yeah, China isn’t unreasonable like the Nazis were, war can be avoided

  10. Ignorance… Hasn’t he ever heard of the *Thucydides Trap*?!

  11. Dear our countries leaders,
