The Monte Valbella. 107 years ago, this was the site of one of the bloodiest fight in the WW 1. You can clearly see the craters caused by the explosions of Austro-Hungarian artillery. [Monte Valbella, Asiago, Veneto, Italy]

The Battle of the Three Mountains, also known as the Battle of Valbella, was an important battle that took place during the First World War between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies. It took place near Monte Valbella and two other surrounding peaks: Monte Zebio and Monte Corno.
The battle took place in 1916, when Italy was trying to break through the Austro-Hungarian lines to advance into the mountainous region of Veneto. The Italian forces, led by General Luigi Cadorna, aimed to conquer these strategic positions to expand their control over the Dolomites and threaten enemy lines of communication.
The Battle of the Three Mountains was particularly bloody and characterised by fighting at high altitude and in extreme weather conditions. Both sides suffered heavy losses, but in the end the Italian army managed to conquer Monte Zebio and Monte Corno, thus establishing a favourable tactical position.
This battle became a symbol of the harshness and brutality of mountain warfare during the First World War, and the area around Monte Valbella is today a place of remembrance and commemoration for those who fought and lost their lives in that conflict.
Let’s make sure it never happens again.
There are oil paintings from 1919 in the Czech military institute, as Czechoslovak legions were fighting on the Italian side, and were part of the battle of Valbella
