  1. >Both men, who are on the sex offenders register, walked free on their release date and disappeared. The average processing time of asylum applications is approximately 18 months, meaning they are effectively free until then. Gardai could then only serve them with a deportation order if their applications were rejected.

    Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

  2. Okay fuck rapists and all but both these men were living in Ireland for decades and served their time. (again fuck’em and I’m all for finding and deporting them). But..what has that got to do with tent people along the canal and posting that photo with the article? Now, the disingenuous argument could be ” what?, were actually advocating for the possibly but also possibly not genuine , not saying ALL foreigners are tent dwelling rapists.. people in tents being delayed processing because of two not genuine asylum cases delaying the others..” but we know that the article and that paper is trying to say to their reader base.

  3. This trick is as old as the hills. So the pat on the back the writer is giving his newspaper is unwarranted.

It’s at the point where the Gardai won’t bother picking up someone for deportation unless they’ve already been refused asylum – because the claiming of asylum is actually a get of jail free card (when you’ve been arrested for deportation).

They could have claimed asylum and had the application dealt with while serving their sentences, but left it til the end to stave off deportation. It’s entirely abusive.

  4. >From the article

    >Both men were jailed, but the Pakistani rapist later obtained a High Court bail and is free pending his claim for asylum. He must sign daily at a Garda station and be of good behaviour.

    >After The Sunday Times alerted the IPO and the Department of Justice to the loophole in mid-April, a GNIB team, under laws allowing them to detain someone if they pose a threat to public safety and security, searched for the men and brought them before a judge.

    >The Albanian man was detained but released soon afterwards in a suspected blunder by the authorities. After a second manhunt for him, the man said he was withdrawing his asylum application and would return home voluntarily.

    >GNIB officers accompanied him to Germany and from there he was watched or “shadowed” until he got on a flight to Albania.

    >***Separately, The Sunday Times has discovered that when asylum seekers are fingerprinted in Ireland, the prints are not checked against criminal records databases in other countries.***

  5. > The Sunday Times understands that in both cases, the men, from Albania and Pakistan, told gardai that they would be applying for asylum in Ireland.

So sexual predators are eligible for asylum? This is beyond insane.

    > Both men, who are on the sex offenders register, walked free on their release date and disappeared.

I have no doubt many of the left in the this country will say this is their legal right. Social contract is broken.

  6. This kind of shit is just ammo for the far right side. And tbh pushed moderate people that way. I saw the article yesterday about asylum seekers getting to vote. It also lends to that conspiracy of they are.improting people to vote for them.
