Inevitable has happened. Sinn Fein were playing to two groups, left-wing college students/young people disgruntled with FF/FG and more working class communities who would have far more anti-immigrant sentiment than the parties going. The right-wing isn’t organised, but if they achieved anything this cycle it’s that they showed the working class communities who vote SF it’s that they don’t represent their desires.
I’m going to be honest, I genuinely have no clue who the SF rep is for the European election in my area. They’ve loads of posters up for the local elections, but I’m not sure who the European candidate is. Whereas FG have them peppered everywhere.
Based on those poll numbers it is likely nobody will get in on first count, and with the numbers running it could be a good few counts before anyone gets elected.
In which case we will have morons for 5 years that don’t understand our voting system being able to say shite like ‘X MEP doesn’t represent us, they needed Y number of counts just to get elected’ regardless of who they are talking about.
Not a fan of him or his politics, but I think Harris has done remarkably well since taking office. Thought he’d be a sacrificial lamb but he’s done well with stuff like Palestine and is doing much better in the polls than I expected, and doesn’t seem to create as much distaste as Leo did. Fine Gael might not be buried yet when it comes to the next election
I just can’t grasp why anybody would vote for Fine Gael at this stage. (never understood tbh, but *especially* now)
After so many years of FG doing nothing but kicking us in the balls, why the fuck would you crawl back to them, thank them, and ask for more. It makes no fucking sense. I hate the far-right parties more than anything in the world, but at least I know the support for them stems from anti-immigrant sentiment, hatred for minorities and a desire for constant agitation and violence. When it comes to FF/FG, there’s just no appeal. Who the fuck do they serve aside from landlords, corporations, and the upper class?
