  1. Well, this 👆🏼is certainly in keeping with the general spirit of recycling.

  2. Fantastic work. And the Darkthrone t-shirt is the icing on the cake

  3. A great use of the land, got to wonder why people are still keeping these aristocratic titles though. Glad to see him taking on the hunters, a group of people who love running roughshod over everyone else’s land a few times a year.

  4. It’ll be nothing but briars, rushes, ferns and scrub inside a generation…..I’ve land rented that was left idle like this for 30 years, and cost thousands to bring it back into productivity

Lads have this vision, that land will end up wild grasses and flowers, like a mini serengeti ,when in fact much of Ireland is poor enough land and the weather deosnt give rise to what the planned vision of rewilding is……we are pissing away food security on a highly questionable fad

  5. I like the idea here, but from reading his many (many) interviews he doesn’t seem to know anything about rewilding besides keeping livestock out and letting everything grow back.

If you look at the restoration project at Knepp in England, it involves a lot of grazing animals (at the right density, and definitely not sheep) to create disturbance and a wider variety of habitat. Thick overgrown forests are not that biodiverse.

A corncrake, in Meath? I feel like that would be bigger news if it were true. Also as someone else said he can fuck off with the title of “Baron”.

Not to be too negative, I like the idea and it’s something we need more of, but there’s more to it than abandoning land.

  6. Wasn’t this guy in the papers a few years ago for something similar and everyone was giving out because he was landed gentry and Ireland shouldn’t have that anymore?

  7. I don’t think they know what a carnivore is…

  8. He’ll need deer control before long, would be my only worry.

All those lovely sapling would be only too tempting to any local deer population

  9. >According to the UN, the world needs to rewild and restore an area the size of China to meet commitments on nature and the climate

Good thing we already have a China ready to rewild!

  10. He’s doing a lot more for nature with what he has than most of us.
