Hello, I'm a tourist visiting Norway for the first time. I saw this sign in a shopping mall in Svolvaer (Lofoten). What does it mean? I think it's kind of funny – a fishermen in a wheelchair? A skiing Baby? Klimbing in the mall? It tried following the sign but couldn't find anything there matching the sign.

  1. I’m guessing it means that there is activities for everyone? (children, normals, fat women, handicapped) Idk… I’m not Norwegian or even live there.

  2. I believe they’re showing you where to go for rock climbing skiing and fishing. not sure what the third image is maybe snowboarding but the arrow is showing you its to the left I think. I’m american

  3. Is there an escalator where the arrow is pointing? My take anyway

  4. Toilet/diaper room for skiing babies, climbing men, surfing women and fishing disabled

  5. Some norwegian babies are born with skis on their feet, so after ultrasound they check the baby and deliever it at the appropriate location in the hospital

  6. I was at that shopping mall a few days ago, travelling from Australia. Confused me at first, it’s the sign for the toilets.

  7. Spread your legs if you ride on planks.

Have shoes with good friction for walking up steep flat surfaces.

Surf like your life depends on it

If you need to pee/poo, use a 3 meter hose.

  8. Did they point towards a toilet? They look like a variation of the WC signs in most malls. So could just be a funny, albeit a confusing sign towards the toilets. You kinda need to know the original to know the spin-off

  9. Bathrooms. Baby on skis is to show that there is a changing station there. Then a man and woman doing activities to show the two types of bathrooms. And a person in a wheelchair fishing, indicating handicap toilets as well.

Hope you have a lovely time in Svolvær! It’s my hometown 🙂

Give me a shout if you need any tips and tricks, or help with activities 🙂

  10. There ares special wheelchair accessible fishing spots. But inside a shopping mall it makes no sense. Neither does the skiing baby.

Never seen these before. I think you might need to ask someone local. People are usually glad to help if they can.

Tourist information? Store for outdoor gear? An office for guided tours? Just some wild guesses.

  11. Looks like a spruced up restroom sign. A lot of malls will have these hanging signs with the traditional silhouettes on them to direct people to toilets (and changing rooms for babies), I’m guessing they had this made to be funny and because Lofoten (parts of it anyway) is a popular area for all these activities.

  12. Toilets/restroom. They just made a funny twist by making them a bit outdoorsy. As we say: We are born with skis on our feet.

  13. It’s a norwegian mating ritual, meant to be read from right to left

  14. Norwegian humor: bathroom signs most likely in Elverum. People there are funny.
