Very little I’m on board with Abbott and DeSantis about, but credit where credit is due – shipping a mere teeny tiny handful to these sanctuaries was fucking brilliant.
Surprised they aren’t using hostels like Chicago is, more appropriate I think as those are designed for groups, potential food prep, etc.
Government bailout of hotels using the “migrant” “”crisis”” as an excuse. There’s no crisis and migrants shouldn’t get massive handouts not working staying in 4-5 star hotels for 6 months at a time getting free gov benefits. It’s insanity
Sounds like political propaganda
Not much President Biden can do about this when you have wing nuts in Texas and Florida sending asylum seeker up here.
The poverty and now migrant industrial complex are in full swing. The amount of $Dollars at play here demonstrate this a purely an economic play. Lobbying, multi-year contracts, positions for former city officials / politicians, and outrageously high payouts for personnel of the private so-called nonprofits running these centres is absolutely outrageous.
Wow! I thought only rich people lived in NYC hotels for long term. Must be nice to live in a place for free while other, law abiding citizens, spend thousands of dollars a month to live in a shoebox.
“The use of city hotels for migrants represents a loss of 16,532 hotel rooms, leaving 121,677 hotel rooms for travelers, according to data compiled by CoStar, a leading provider of commercial real estate data and analysis.” – from the article. That’s 8.4%. There were 22,000 AirBnB listings in 2023, many of which shut down when NYC banned many AirBnBs.
