‘Brexit to blame’: Huge lorry queues at Dover as port bosses call for talks on EU checks

  1. >It comes as port chiefs urged the UK government to hold talks with the [EU](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/eu) on ways to ease further checks set to come in later in 2022 which could cause “disastrous” disruption to trade.

If only there was some kind of scheme we could be a part of where you could move with minimal disruption through Europe

  2. Ooh nearly lasted a week before having to post –

Nobody could have predicted this, absolutely nobody, out of nowhere it came. Total shock!

  3. No no no, this simply cannot be the case because the government told businesses to prepare for Brexit. This is surely Project Fear. Why don’t they believe in Britain more??

  4. Why is this a problem now? I know we were introducing new inbound immediate checks in 2022 so I can see why there are queues in France, but why is the situation in England worse than it was in December? We’ve had outbound customs checks since last year.

  5. The M20 has been like this since 2019. It comes in peaks and troughs but there’s been a 50mph limit and two lanes per side between Ashford and Maidstone for several years now as they attempt to put the lorries somewhere. It’s all self inflicted though but the people who did this to us are still in denial.

  6. It was only a couple of weeks ago that the Brexiters were crowing about how there were no delays, everything was fine, and Remainers should shut up.

Well here we are. The new year lull has passed, it’s a shitshow, and the Brexiters are almost silent. I wonder why?

  7. So I’m taking the ferry by car next week sunday from Dover, are these queues just for lorries or also for others taking boats? I’m just not sure how to plan for it

  8. Oh look that thing that has been warned about for 6 years has happened and clearly we were perfectly ready for it just like every Tory MP has said everytime it’s mentioned

  9. Well this is clearly covid playing a part here what happened was every lorry companies admin staff had to self isolate and it caused an issue … f**king admin staff what they like, they should have used hand face space. *turns camera off* Phew, I think we got away with that one … its ok we can edit it and have a title like “on EU checks”, so the plebs think it’s EU to blame.

  10. With local residents angry, even though Kent was a very pro-Leave area. They got their wish, they just grossly underestimated how much the EU needed us compared to how badly we need them.

  11. As someone who works for a company that relies on imports, brexit has fucked us so much. So many deliveries late with knock on effects

  12. If there’s huge queues, then how are we going to get the big red bus through with 350mil on it to deliver the NHS?

  13. One minute we have a lorry driver shortage because BREXIT, the next we have too many lorries to process because BREXIT. Someone needs to make their mind up which it is.

Anyone actually experiencing any life changing issues because BREXIT or are we just circle jerking egos?

  14. With any luck the absolute disaster unfolding as Brexit chickens come home to roost will result in the destruction of the tories forever. I’m talking complete eradication. Eton being burned, everything. Plus when the Queen dies – the end of the monarchy.

  15. You shouldn’t have to be in a union with other nations to prevent endless lorry queues. Why doesn’t this issue effect other non EU members that border the EU?

  16. Maybe the bunch of con-men that consist of the Port of Dover management can spend some of theit actual profits on building facilities (which theve knocked down of the past 20 years) to have a well lit room where:

“single passengers presenting themselves one at a time in an orderly fashion in a nice well-lit hall”

TAP works fine – up until some entitled cunts who think rules don’t apply to them rock up and try to jump the queue: thinking they’re clever as fuck whilst they block junctions in the town or roundabouts on other routes…….

This simply requires more agrressive policing – again something the Port can pay for: they already have a dedicated Police Force with powers extending into the town..

  17. Isn’t this working as intended? It is taking back control of the borders so anything goes in and out will have body scans, passport checks just like at the airport. Maybe they just need a bigger port or more lanes to get people and goods checked out quickly?
