Henry Hassell asked Sunak, ‘Why do you hate young people so much?’ after the prime minister announced a plan to enforce mandatory national service if the Conservatives are elected in July. Sunak responded with ‘You’ll have a choice’ and ‘You’ll love it!’ when Hassell said he has already spent his life volunteering. The plans will force every 18-year-old in the country to spend time in a competitive, full-time military commission, or one weekend a month volunteering in ‘civil resilience’.

  1. Just look at the amount of businesses and stores that have disappeared during the Tories reign. A failed party that has failed the British economy

  2. You have to take part in national service because your grandfather did.
Of course it would be a public schooled ra-ra, middle class chap that doesn’t want to do anything for his country….

  3. It won’t do anything for the country though, joining the army won’t fix the cost of living crisis or the immigration crisis or the knife epidemic:.. it won’t re house the homeless people and VETERANS! Etc

  4. "No you'll have a choice!"

No he won't. If the tories remain in power young people will be REQUIRED to partake in national service. But you do have a choice right now: don't vote for the Selfservatives.

  5. The problem is young people are lazy didn’t see young people complaining in the 1940 they got on with the job you should be lucky how easy your have it

  6. shows the youth have zero respect nowadays, its not a bad idea, but a lot of youngsters are lazy and only interested in likes on their phone, the truth hurts but its true!!

  7. Dont worry. Tories hate youngsters, always have done and labour hates pensioners. Equal on both sides of the spectrum.

  8. You'll have a choice alright like the men in Ukraine had a choice to stay and he drafted to go die on the frontlines that was there choice so will it be yours

  9. When I was younger you'd have to try convince young men not to join the Army. Nowadays kids are more aware of what's happening.

Young men die fighting old men's wars.

But if we don't have people willing to defend a livlihood, then we might aswel have nothing at all.

  10. He could not wait to get away from the lad. Probably because he can not defend or rationalise his latest fad to cheers up the old purple rinse bigrade.

  11. A real leader would have stopped and debated and won the young guy round. Surely Sunak didn't come up with the idea in his sleep without a detailed and compelling evidence based thought process.

  12. Old tory voters want to force young people into national service.

So nobody wants this, it doesn't even appeal to the gammons because we have a choice in not doing it at all.

  13. I can’t even begin to comprehend the thought process behind this manifesto. I have always been conservative but now they have rendered an entire generation labour for this election because of national service or volunteering. What demographic did they think this would secure the vote from?
