Half of third-level students intervened in an incident of sexual violence or harassment

  1. Theres approx 250k 3rd level students in Ireland giving 62.5k incidents pa. It would appear there are serious issues within the student population for failure to report these instances. If true the student body are an absolute disgrace for shielding sexual impropriety. They give the impression they are as a body a moral cesspit

  2. I find that figure to be very high. Seeing how people react to public incidents I think it’s extremely unlikely that half would intervene. Between the bystander effect and people’s reluctance to speak up at much less important things, I’m skeptical.

  3. Do people think a threat of violence is considered to be a violent act?

I hope these cases become less frequent. I’m just at a loss for understanding how despite more and more education in recent years, the numbers suggest that things have been getting worse… and yet, over the years there has been a decrease in violent crimes from the CSO.

  4. These studies or surveys always get rigged so that they’ll come out with a figure that is outrageous. The figure of genuine sexual assaults will be significant but far lower. They’re classifying making a suggestive comment or giving someone a look or a comment interpreted as sexist as sexual harassment, lumping it in with much more serious sexual ‘actual’ crimes while not being transparent about it. If anyone can make it their whole life without even one time flirting with someone who wasn’t interested by mistake, asking someone out and getting rejected or whatever other minor grievance then congratulations because you’re an anomaly. This is just taking normal male behavior and pathologising it for an agenda.
