New poll finds nearly half of Americans think Trump should end campaign after conviction

1. I’d be surprised if that was substantially higher than the number of people who thought he should end his campaign prior to conviction.

2. He won’t. POTUS is his only way out of prison for the rest of his life, and he’s aware of that.

   He’s also the only reason the GOP have a chance this election because a huge part of their base are MAGA.

3. In many other jurisdictions around the world Trump would have been asked to step down by his party for the good of the party several times over by now.

   I mean as a candidate the guy comes with a metric tonne of baggage and counting.

   Republicans should have ripped this bandaid off after the Access Hollywood tape.

6. Whether the GOP admits it or not, it’s a risk keeping a convicted felon as your presidential candidate. Given the high load of threats of violence and death by MAGA for all those involved, jurists too, even they’re aware of the risk.

    On the one side, I want him to run. I want him to bring total shame to the GOP. I want them to fail all the way down ticket and while there will still be plenty of GOP representatives elected – his failure and America’s rejection of him will hopefully get Democrats such control of Congress and the White House that they can bring in universal health care, make real progress in fixing voting issues and the border, and hopefully replace 2 Supreme Court justices and tip the balance of power back from corporatations and religious zealots back to the people.

    On the other side – people are really stupid and the chance he could win makes me want him to just drop out now rather than take the chance on him getting back into the White House and making things worse.

17. A poll saying half the country wanted something related to politics, and the other half didn’t. Shocker. It’s almost like it’s a super divided nation, which we all knew.

18. Moot point. He’s not going anywhere until he either dies or goes to jail. Trump blew through his reality tv money and was broke before the 2016 election. All he has to do now is say some wild shit on a podium and his supporters open their wallets. It’s too easy a way for him to make money and stay out of jail for him ever to go quietly.

    We should take this as a lesson and remove money from politics. There will always be power hungry people but it’s a much smaller group who try to become dictators when there isn’t much money involved.

19. Absolutely not. Republican voters were warned over and over that this could happen. Trump was well aware.

    They don’t get to call a mulligan and just pick a new candidate. Trump has the most delegates. He’s going to become the nominee.

    And this god forsaken country will put the Trump question to rest in November.

    Republicans have made their bed, and now they have to lay in it.

20. Independent here that used to lean slight right in the early Obama days but far left ever since.

    I think he should stay on the race. Hear me out…if he drops out and a less controversial nominee gets the nomination, there may be enough people who dislike Biden enough (but wouldn’t have voted for Trump) that vote for the new nominee and Biden loses.

    I’d rather Trump stay in, keep things polarized and get whooped in November.
