Transparent solar panels, or solar windows, represent an exciting innovation in the renewable energy sector. These panels allow windows to serve as solar energy generators without altering the appearance of buildings.
Ubiquitous Energy, a Silicon Valley startup, has pioneered the development of these transparent solar panels with their product ClearView Power. This technology was first developed at MIT in 2011, and Ubiquitous Energy has since refined it.
A typical ClearView Power window can produce more than 100 watts of power, comparable to rooftop solar panels which typically produce around 300 watts per panel. This makes transparent solar panels a viable option for energy generation in homes and buildings, especially where traditional solar panels might not be practical.
This could democratize solar power, allowing more people to generate their own electricity and reduce their reliance on the grid.

The article is basically click bait. This is old news.
Transparent solar cells for use in windows has been a focus of PV research for well over 10 years. They have low efficiency and are not comparable to dedicated panels. However, if the cost can come down to be comparable to clear window panels then it makes sense to try to use them as a building material. This is especially important for skyscrapers covered in glass.
