Ukraine has again struck an oil refinery in Rostov. The Russians claimed that the air defense was “working”.

  6. I find it amusing that these attacks are not increasing price of oil like experts said but instead it’s around $70 per barrel. This really hurt Russia and the reason why China has them bent over a barrel.

  11. The only refinery in Rostov is Novoshakhtinsk which has a capacity of 172,600 barrels per day. It was hit previously on March 13 when a column was damaged. This looks like another distillation column destroyed.

As my physics professor explained, Work = Force x Distance Displaced in the direction of the force.  So technically, air defense is “working” any time it fires ordnance.   It doesn’t actually have to hit a target to be performing work.  Most people are thinking in terms of “useful work” which really is entirely in the eye of the beholder.  Hard Science vs  fuzzy perceptions.

    Using the physics definition (air defense worked) makes for a much better sounding after action report than “We successfully shot down several of their missiles thereby reducing damage to the cracking unit from 99% damaged to merely 85% damaged.”

  17. Yup looks like the air defense worked if the refinery is the air defense.

  18. The RuZZian air defense worked! That twitchy cracking or distillation tower was set up that high so it would easily intercept any drones. Well done!
