The distillation towers are targeted because they will completely shut down the refinery for a long time (all the crude goes through it) even if they could get spare parts and know how.

The RuZZians dressed up that distillation tower like a maypole, but it burned up like a wicker man. The Rostov refinery’s May Day/Beltane bonfires were delayed this year, but the conflagration made up for it!
This is misleading. If you continue a few seconds later in the video you can clearly see this section wasn’t hit, and the glow is the reflection of the flames.

When I met Soviets in the 1980s, Ukrainian citizens of the Soviet Union often told me that it was the Ukrainians that were the Brains of the Soviet Union–mostly responsible for their successful space program, aircraft designs, etc…..
I didn’t know what to make of those statements back then: I equated it to Texans being proud of being Texans and telling you about how great the state of…, uh…, oh, Texas is/was. So Ukrainians are proud to be Ukrainians–that’s great.
Seeing how the Ukrainians have held up during this invasion and their inventiveness and strategies, I am thinking that what the Soviet Ukrainians said wasn’t mere boasts, but statements of fact.
