[Maddison] Devastated doesn’t quite cut it. Trained well and worked hard all week but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make. 1/2

>I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26 man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that. I’ll be back, I have no doubt. Wishing the boys all the luck in the world out in Germany, unbelievable group and lads that I literally call some of my best friends. I genuinely hope football comes home ❤️🏴
“Devastated doesn’t quite cut it.” Apparently neither does Maddison.
Mature response!
I blame man city for this fiasco
That is a good response, shows great attitude.
To be honest, if he was borderline even making the squad, it is unlikely he would have made it onto the pitch anyway, except maybe a dead rubber final group game.
Not taking him and Grealish seems such a huge mistake.
It’s a tough decision, but when you’ve spent half the season injured and not at the best form, your best position is competing with the likes of Bellingham and Foden and your secondary position is competing with Palmer, Saka, Eze, it’s not leaving a lot of space in the squad.
Think it’s harsh by Southgate for the cuts to be made so early, but it’s understandable that he wants his final squad in place for the final warm up game. Personally hoping he still takes Branthwaite, as he’d add some good strength to the defence and has had some good form this season.
