2 Police officers shot dead on patrol in western Germany

  1. Sounds like organized crime. Rip.

Edit: DW says it happened during a car stop, so it could be anything. I falsely assumed it was a punitive attack by a gang.

  2. Edit: [Police arrested two suspects](https://www.spiegel.de/panorama/justiz/kusel-toedliche-schuesse-auf-beamte-polizei-nimmt-tatverdaechtigen-fest-a-6e4a8b10-bf3f-464f-a446-fc14f30cfa62) (thx /u/untergeher_muc). One runs a bakery and a venison-store 50km away in Neunkirchen/Saarland

I live near the area where this occurred, absolutely mind-boggling.

Two young officers murdered in [ quiet Ulmet?!](https://ulmet.de/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/cropped-IMG_9882-scaled-1.jpg)

Someone in r/de pulled out the statistic: only two officers where shot and killed, while on duty, in the last 10 years …in all of germany

  3. Apparently they have killed 2 Police officers over some illegal game ? If that is true that is insane. Are punishment so harsh for it in Germany that it can even cross someone mind to do something like this ? There has to be some other reason why they have did it

  4. > The perpetrators fled but police had no description of them, the car they used or in which direction they fled. A hunt for the assailants was extended to the neighbouring German state of Saarland, police said.

Do German police cars have dash cams?

  5. Very few informations in the article and it doesnt match most German ones.

    1. Many ppl in the comments talk about deer but every article I read clearly used the German word “Wild” which would mean game. If the civil definition is used that can include wolves. Shooting a Wolf is a very serious offense and that might be a reason for some to shoot humans aswell.

    2. The officers had a civil vehicle not a marked police car. Might be interesting for some.

    3. Some sources mention that they are looking for a police known suspect.

  6. That’s sad to hear.

I hope we don’t end up like America where in all traffic controls are with the officer’s hands of the gun and they talk to you like you are the on the world’s most wanted list. All that while doing a routine traffic control.

  7. Man this is chilling. I could never be a cop. Just the idea that a routine part of my job could result in sudden arbitrary death is really scary.

  8. Did some digging around on German news sites, apparently they identified a possible suspect. Hopefully it opens up some leads.

  9. Why is it not common practice to radio in the plates of the car you are stopping or to have a camera in the car recording anytime an officer initiates an encounter?

  10. Police potentially identified one of the perpetrators and a manhunt is underway.

There’s an official report of the police on the RLP police website but i’m not sure if i can link it since it might break reddit rules. (The report has pictures and the name of the person)

  11. In Western Germany every policecar has a video camera behind the front window, it recods not every time but when using the „Stop Polizei“ sign in the light bar it definetly does! The problem in this case is, that the car that has been used was a zivil car so i dont know if it has had a camera inside.

  12. German media reports 2 suspects have been arrested. The main suspect is a game meat salesman. Apparently papers leading to his identification were found at the scene of the crime.
