  1. > Their lead character in the Carmen Mola novels is detective Elena Blanco, a “peculiar and solitary woman, who loves grappa, karaoke, classic cars and sex in SUVs”

and nobody suspected a thing 😀

but all it took for the mysterious author to make an appearance was an offer of money 😀

  2. “The men had published under the pseudonym Carmen Mola, which roughly translates as “Carmen’s cool”.”

Mola is a surname, not so common but it exists.

  3. Spain has a literary prize that awards the winner ONE MILLION euro? I’m going to write some stuff and Google translate that into Spanish pronto.

  4. Aren’t a bunch of feminists upset at this? I remember reading that reviews of their books “captured the essence of the female perspective” or something like that

  5. Anyone else reminded of the scene in Blackadder where he Jane Austen as a Burly Yorkshire man, with beard like a rhododendron bush?

  6. Inb4: “And they’re only now saying that their female characters sucked and were /r/menwritingwomen”

[Nope](https://smoda.elpais.com/feminismo/carmen-mola-lo-que-piensan-las-escritoras-de-los-hombres-que-no-escriben-bien-a-las-mujeres/amp/). Writer Rosa Montero and others have been calling it since 2018.

The whole Premio Planeta thing is rigged and a publicity stunt anyway, which is the real scandal imo.

ETA – Someone took the time to translate [the article](https://www.reddit.com/r/news/comments/qaah8e/lauded_spanish_female_crime_writer_revealed_to_be/hh61a5x?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)

  7. As a woman I really dont get what the fuss is all about. Maybe its sad people pretend to be someone else but thats mainly a consequence of capitalism if we are honest

  8. If this doesn’t result in a “of course it takes three men to do the work of one woman” joke, I’m going to be disappointed! 🙂

  9. This just reminds me of the Blackadder 3 episode where he adopts a female writing name to get published as he’s convinced Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters were actually men posing as women.

  10. AHAHAHAH hilarious, this is like in that movie when a woman had to make his husband sign her paintings, and now we’re going the opposite way! Yay, this sure is PROGRESS! EQUALITY! 😀

  11. I don’t get why some people are upset by this. George Eliot was Mary Ann Evans’ nom de plume and the world didn’t end…

  12. Mother, father… I need to tell you something: I am not a woman. I am men

    You mean man?

    No, I am 3 men
