Everytime I read the comments section of the journal I want to gouge out my eyes. Why do I torture myself like this.
Sooooooo have the private sector pay more, which means the employee gets taxed more, which means more ways to squander the money they receive?
Annnnnd these two paragraphs from the article are just both enraging and enforce why I wouldn’t vote for FFG;
*The Taoiseach said the government had thought that the rise in inflation may be temporary but he said it “could be a bit longer than we might have anticipated”.*
And
*Martin said the government is open at looking at budgetary measures, but said “we have think our way through this in an intelligent way”.*
There’s apprentices like myself doing 40 hours a week on 7e an hour maybe have a look at that too Leo 🙄
Does he have specifics as to how much?
This is the one where employers are all going to have selective deafness.
IBEC are hastily coming up with 13 reasons your employer can reject your request
I assume he plans on giving public sector workers a raise too?
Is it like a strong recommendation that will be ignored anyway?
Leo’s PR campaign in full swing now
Why not lower taxes and stop hiking the price of fuel and energy…
Genuinely asking, is this fear seeping in?
Maybe I’m reading him wrong, but I would’ve always thought it’d take a lot for Varadkar to ask businesses to hike wages. With inflation sticking about, the squeeze is really coming for many who are stuck paying exorbitant rents or barely covering mortgages. Can’t see how that will go well for government/votes.
You know when people ask wht *exactly* leftists mean when we criticise ‘neoliberalism’? This. *This* is what it means. An absolute, unmovable, slavish, almost *religious* dedication to the moronic idea that government is powerless and relies entirely on the supposed “goodwill” of those who hold the capital in order to achieve literally anything at all.
Fucking hell. Cost of living is too high? Fucking *do* something about it you absolute fuckwits, it’s your fucking *job*! You are *not* paid to sit on the sidelines of this shit! The pandemic proved that you can drastically alter the very foundational fabric of society at the stroke of a pen, how can you pretend to be *this* fucking helpless in dealing with the economy?
Wouldn’t mind seeing a tax credit for people for who WFH is an impossibility. The savings you can make from not having to rely on transport is incredible and by far the biggest thing I miss. Costs me about €50 a week without even considering wear and tear and what not on the car.
Another thing for my boss to laugh at
Its a shame he isnt in charge of paying say 300,000 public sector employees who he could give a pay raise to
If only he was in a position to do something
What’s the point, if GNI increases and so does the money circulated in the economy, but a household’s disposal income stays the same?
If only we could just make it so employers had to make a minimum wage to pay their employees instead of strongly urging them 🙁
“Urges”
You make the law, you can fucking do something about it you gobshite
Rising wages equals an inflation spiral.
So how about a tax break instead? Keep the tax take flat BUT reduce the rate.
If only there was some sort of mechanism he had to make companies do this sort of thing 🤔
..hmmmm
…nope, can’t think of anything he can do. Guess heel just have to ask nicely again
Can’t they just increase the minimum wage a nice amount for people, instead of the 30 cent they did? Should incentivise more companies to up pay also then to remain competitive
Ah the do nothing approach…let’s see how this pans out cotton
We are stuck with these gobshites for another 2-3 years…..fuck this country I’m out
Does he know how hyperinflation works?
Needed Pup for the last 5 weeks but thankfully back to work. They’ve brought in a means test basing your emergency payment on your earnings from 2020. Because I was a student then I got a third of my wages to keep me going, 150 E. My rent basically. Funny how this government brought that in when it was nightclubs and restaurants solely hit by COVID, a largely min wage group. They don’t care and never will.
Yeah I once urged my drunk self not to piss myself. Hope it goes well for you Leo.
These businesses will then pass on that cost to their customers making the cost of living less affordable leading to a rise in wages causing the businesses to pass on the cost to customers making the cost of living less affordable and so on and so forth. Inflation is going to gave to be stopped by increasing interest rates.
Inflation to counter inflation.
No, no! Dig UP stupid!
hey remember the time they accidentally made drugs legal and got off their behinds and passed a law pretty quick about that, why couldnt they do this now, why does the government who are in charge not just tell these companies operating in their country what they will provide for their employees instead of vague advice they will double back on and do nothing about in an attempt to wash their hands of their jobs main responsibilities by convincing voters the government is actually powerless to do anything that would actually help the country and everyone living in it!!!
Or you know…decrease taxes?
Everything he says and does is calculated. All you have to do is look back at what Emmett Kirwins observations were about him and you will understand.Divide and rule, his motto. And by the variance of comments here its working well for him. Emmetts comments on a late late show few years ago.
They could just stop with the fucking new taxes
I mean if he’d really want to help he could abolish USC fairly quickly. All talk Leo, go stand next to little Mary Lou over there.
You see with oul Leo the problem is no matter what the cost of living is he will not feel any effects of it atall,,, what so ever!
They all have way too much money to really understand or feel what the cost of living is these days ,,, my take anyways 🙃
Great idea. Up there with Marie Antoinette’s “let them eat cake” and Mugabe’s “just print more money”.
