Hello all! Next month I’m marrying into a Greek family and will have a hybrid English/Greek wedding. Unfortunately we couldn’t find a Greek DJ, so we’re left to choose the Greek music on our own. Here is my music for the Greek circle dances (which I believe is called Syrtos dance/Kalamatianós Dancing), please tell me if there’s anything that should be added or removed from the list. I don’t really know what I’m doing, so this is what I could come up with! Any help at all would be much appreciated.

The “***” indicates must-plays for our DJ

If it influences the music at all, his family is from Chios

  1. Hi and Congrats. In Greek weddings you have traditional and modern Greek songs. Modern are pretty much the same regardless the area. When it comes to traditional songs, each area may have its own songs eg Kalamata, Ipiros, Islands, Crete etc. Is best to check with your husband’s side to find the right ones for the area. Having said that there are couple “traditional” songs that are used regardless the area, such as “Simera gamos ginetai”, “Wraia pou einai i nifi mas”, “Stou paidiou mou tin hara” etc. As for the modern, a Google search of tragoudia tou gamou, will bring up many playlists.  Good luck and don’t stress too much about it. Is just another day. 🙂

  2. Don’t. The list is “funny” at least. Just play the music you actually like or get a dj.

My wedding started with Feeling Good, continued similarly, it was not multicultural and I had to tackle old Greeks from both sides. All went fine and they still remember it. (They trick is the good food)

  3. If that was my wedding party playlist I would consider breaking up

  4. Why won’t you ask the greek family to find songs..
Half of the songs are funny for us at least..
