I don’t watch Serie A and thought it would be good to hear some opinions from this sub. I’m trying to understand why he’s nowhere near an England team with a defensive crisis for the upcoming euros

  1. Yes, he is a good player and Southgate is incompetent. He isn’t world class, but for sure better than some of Englands other options

  2. He’s a good player. Has mad pace and is physical. He’s had a pretty disappointing 2023-24 but otherwise has been really good at the back for us.

PL tax is what I feel he doesn’t get represented. And even when he had the chance to play, he wasn’t at his A game. Hopefully he gets to play soon, or he should switch over and represent Canada or Nigeria.

  3. One word answer, Premier League Bias. That’s the only reason he isn’t in the squad.

  4. Very good. Solid defensively and has modern attributes being able to manage the ball under pressure at the back and is very quick.

Occasionally has a blunder resulting in a poor challenge/red card and his positioning could improve.

But he should 100% have been called up, especially with Maguire injured – Southgate just likes to call up people he’s familiar with and fit the system. Unfortunately he was injured for a quite a bit this season so didn’t get as many chances to be called up for friendlies etc.

  5. For 23/24, he was Milan’s solid defence beacon before his injury.

  6. He should have stayed with Canada. He’s only played meaningless matches for England and with colwill and brsnthwaite on the up he’s less likely. This was his season to cement a spot

  7. He was one of, If not the best CB in Serie A before his injury, and while he hasn’t been anywhere near that level after it, he still should’ve been called up and is imo the 2nd best CB england have at disposal.
