  1. He should have nibbled up the smarties to explain the fractional transfer system.

  2. Something I’ve never been clear on is how surplus votes get chosen. For instance someone gets elected on the first count, and has 1000 surplus votes. Do they pick 1000 at random?

  3. A system crying out for computerisation.

God love them,no wonder mistakes get made.

  4. What happens if there’s a full recount requested by one candidate?

  5. this is a good example of why to vote all the way down the ballot – the smarty that was eaten may have actually not wanted the winner to win, because they are a nazi say, but also didn’t want to vote for mad lefty and left it blank – you’ve inadvertently elected the nazi-smarty by not voting all the way down

  6. That was a good watch! Very helpful when explaining to people.

  7. I expected better of Gavin. He’s normally on point on this topic, but not dramatically smashing the transfer smartie into fractional pieces and distributing it was a miss step. He should apologise immediately for spreading misinformation…..

Also his coded message eating the GREEN one as a reference to what’s going to happen at the count… we all saw through it.

    /s (in case it’s not clear….)

  8. But who’s hotel to we burn down to get rid of the M&M’s?. /s

  9. Forgive me if this is a daft question.

If really don’t want a particular candidate to get any votes, am I better off leaving them blank altogether or assigning them the lowest possible ranking.

Edit – thanks. I don’t know why but I was half thinking leaving them blank would put them in a wild card draw or something lol

  10. Has anyone ever worked in a polling centre or counted the votes? Is it stressful?

Do people make mistakes? (They must, they’re just people who get tired if the count goes on late)

Is everything double checked by someone else?

Can you leave the count centre? Are phones banned? Is it really strict and serious or is it fun?

  11. Wallace was at the very end of the sheet I noticed.

    Every bit helps .

  12. Why can’t they just do it so that when a candidate is eliminated, there’s a recount and the eliminated candidate’s voters 2nd preference votes are now used and so on ?

I don’t like the whole “well most of X group vote for Y group so we’ll add on a proportionate amount of votes for them”. It adds to the whole 1 person 1 vote thing too.

  13. Must be a challenge to get all those posters down within a week. The constituencies are huge.

  14. I’m too lazy to open and read it. Is the joke only? smarties have the answer?
